My CMP Field Grade 1944 M1911A1 had a few minor issues the first time I fired it - wouldn't always fully close the first round when I released the slide stop and I got an erratic brass ejection pattern. Figured I'd replace the recoil spring - found some USGI made in 1984 - and did a tension check on the extractor. Both it and the ejector seemed to be good. The springs arrived yesterday afternoon - installed one today and took the pistol down to my range here at home. Functioned flawlessly - just needed some extra juice. No more getting bopped in the head and shoulders with hot brass. :crapstorm:

I did ultimately find examples of dated barrels. Mine is a Colt-manufactured contract barrel and not dated.

it's interesting to me that they were still making replacement parts so close to the retiirement of the 1911. One of mine actually has a 1986 dated TZ replacement barrel (!). I was at a pistol range at Bragg in 86 when we opened the first crates of yuckky M9s

Lots of 1911a1s that came out of the active component went to reserve units and were used for another 10 years until all the units were converted to M9s.
