I’m new to TW but I thought I’d create a post for anyone planning on mounting a roam case to there roof or bedrack.

I have used the case very day for the past 3 months carrying power tools for work (I’m a contractor) it started buy being mounted to my roof rack but when I got the bedrack I moved it there. In the past 2 weeks I have noticed a pretty significant warp in the case that has made closing the case correctly more difficult. After emailing roam and waiting a few days they responded saying they will see what they can do but drilling mounting holes instantly voids your warranty.

now I’m not writing this as a angry review just as a heads up for anyone planning to mount the case permanently to your roof or bedrack and you live in an area where it can get pretty hot. I’m not to sure what caused the issue, on roams Facebook group they said it might be the gas struts, I think it might be a combo of high heat and the gas struts but who knows. 13050A96-25EB-43E4-99F8-26CE7DAC4D06.jpgBEF2348E-6583-4652-BF9D-3B6F1EFF65E0.jpg16E372AC-4A29-44EB-B347-8C0A09A4E464.jpg9E525BCE-0ED4-4D06-AC53-6B355DCB6E02.jpg

Do you live in Death Valley?

Hahaha, I’ve never seen that much deformation in any rotomolded type plastic before.
    That’s gnarly.

I’ve had pelican for years (buy used, never pay full price) and have been trying the harbor freights brand for over a year now and it’s not bad at all.
    Apache? I think?
They make a rifle sized one that is regularly on sale.

Been seeing more issues with rotomolted products warping over time. Just search yeti coolers warping online. Disappointing to see high cost products fail like this.

Hope they make you whole. Earlier this year, I ordered a tent through them and it came damaged. After two months of back and forth, they did right by me but I had to fight for the results..

    and welcome to the forum!

Im hoping they do as well. I spend alot of time in the heat at job sites, I cant have cases that aren't cheap melting.

maybe look at a tan one when you go to buy again. Less heat than a black one?

if it works for the .mil in the sandbox…

    Oh yeah most definitely!
They were probably pelican or hardigg.

I meant more as heat mitigation to avoid the deforming.

    every little bit helps.

Roam has made good on there warranty. The gas strut mixed with heat is what caused the case to deform and has since redesigned the gas strut system. They also sent me a new case free of charge and I didn’t even have to bother paying to ship back the old one. From what I can tell the plastic seems to be harder and the gas strut placement works a lot better. I will continue to update this post to hopefully show its durability. 0BB00539-C809-4635-92B5-CC44431CF039.jpg

This thread made me nervous if I have the pre or post design change variant. Only one way to find out I guess LOL.

But I have a colleague who also had this happen - and now he has is replacement and his defected mounted up there anyway lol. So anyway I guess the ROAM response seems consistent.

Just found this post and noticed my 83L is warping pretty bad. Was wondering how your replacement case is holding up? I will file a warranty claim and hopefully Roam will take care of me too.

I did eventually have the ROAM curvature. One box worse than the other. I got warranty swaps without too much hassle from ROAM. I gifted the used ones and sold the warranty swaps NIB. Factored them out of my build all together - no longer needed with the SmartCap. Happy to remove the weight and drag.
