Any clues on how to keep my new truck clean?
A tube of something came with my new truck, didn't say if it was wax or what. Just after I brought the truck home I washed it and applied the stuff.
The truck was dusty the next day or so.
Next, I washed and applied some cheap ceramic stuff from Walmart. $20.
still dirty in a day or so.
How do you guys keep your trucks kinda clean?
Water beads up fine and dust washes right off. Just don't want to do that every day in winter.
A friend has an army green one he has only washed once and it looks clean.

If you're super OCD about keeping your truck clean buying a black one was your first mistake. Literally the hardest color to keep clean

It's rough. I even park in the garage and still gets layers of dust

I don’t… I’m happy for the first few hours it’s clean and that’s it.

once I get the stuff, I’ll paint correct, clay, ceramic and then top coat ceramic and hope for the best.
It’s tough to keep clean but looks killer when it is.

Black was not my first color choice! However, if I may provide a bit of snark... keep it in the garage and do not drive it!
    ;-)

I guess everyone might agree black is a tough color to keep clean. Personally I have always used Meguiar's products. In particular-- the spray on wax and spray on detailer. When I get home, if the truck is wet (but NOT dirty) I use a non-abrasive cloth to pat it dry. Then I apply detailer on the front and hood with a new cloth and wipe it clean. I do this in the garage, so once I do it it is ready to go out again. I feel like this keeps the water beading optimally and keeps everything moving off the truck when it is moving and keeping it cleaner than otherwise.

Now if it is dirty, dusty, etc, then I go to a car wash for a more extensive wash (you know ... abrasives like dirt and dust should not be rubbed into the clearcoat). Is this obsessive behavior? Maybe. Other times I just let it go. It is always raining this time of year in the Pac NW, so once you get on the highway, your truck is getting dirty. No avoiding it. And no avoiding the fact that it will need a wash rather than "spray detailer".

You can see from my profile picture I had a lighter color "Sierra Beige" which did not show dust and dirt as much, but still I will continue using the Meguiar's with my black Tacoma. A side benefit of Meguiar's? It smells delicious, especially if you do it indoors. Apparently their head of marketing used to be a fragrance guy... and recognized that there is more to wax than just a shine.

Meguiar's has a forum that can provide useful information, take a look...

Park it in dark, poorly lit garages and look at your cellphone in a distracting manner as you approach so you don’t actually look at your taco.

Generally not looking at the taco before you touch or jump inside is an acceptable approach regardless of its color.

Wash it regularly and be careful with automated car washes as the clear coat is not great on any Tacomas. Black will swirl easily with cheap/improper detailing tools and supplies. Since it's new you should put a high quality ceramic coat on to protect the paint but it won't keep it clean. I just got done glazing and 2 sealant coats on mine with a DA polisher and it looks great after 11+ years. I use the Chemical Guys stuff but there are a number of high quality products to keep it looking great. Hyrule-trd is spot on with "It’s tough to keep clean but looks killer when it is". Best of luck and enjoy!IMG_2451.jpg

Last and only time I clayed mine I used chemical guys Hydroslick then hydrospeed and it turned out really good. I don’t think it lasted more than a few months though, even with the top spray after washes.

Really like the 11 black taco pictured above.(great job) I also have a black 2016. It has a few swirls when I got it but I used mcguire’s products and a da to apply. Hand Wash it regularly if it bothers you too much and get some detailing spray then you can wipe it down whenever you get the urge.

Thanks. Every time I start thinking about getting a new one I come back to the fact mine is in great condition and doesn’t cost me anything. New frame, brakes, tires, fluids, tune up and roof painted. Now I just work to keep it clean.

I park my truck in the garage. I use a battery powered leaf blower to remove loose dust from my truck after driving. It may sound weird (the concept not the sound of the leaf blower itself...), but it does keep my truck looking pretty clean. My fam thinks I'm nuts tho. o_O
