I just mean that it's a poverty spec truck. Even when new, this was nothing special, and certainly not "rare" (production-wise) by any stretch of the imagination. This doesn't even have any sort of "rare" option package, was a custom order with options not otherwise available from a package, or some Iron Man Stewart Edition or something. This is very much a vanilla truck.

I totally understand car collectors looking for cars that were a limited run, the first of its kind, etc... Eleanore type cars.

The mileage-driven price IMO is more related to bozos wanting bragging rights for being able to say they spent a redonkulous amount of money on the lowest mileage vehicle. I guess that's something to brag about.

Like you say, ultra-low mileage doesn't actually have any advantages, functionally speaking.

I'll take a truck with 100+k miles and is 1/10th the price any day of the week.

It’s Friday and that stupid truck just sold for $45,000. So now I’m really pissed, I sold my ‘85 for less than $5000, and I sold my Westfalia VW bus for $6000. :annoyed:

I need a drink to drown in.

Yea.. but unless you make it part of your man-cave or just stare and admire it every night whilst pounding a few cold ones, you will never really enjoy it. Otherwise, you might was well enclose it in a big ass climate proof encasement. .. damn... it's time for Happy hour.

Ok, I'll be that guy, I would rather have this truck then a brand new 4th gen tacoma. Yeah the new stuff is nice with all the bells and whistles, but they really don't make them like this anymore. 22re manual transfer case, etc. ... yes you have to get off your ass to get out and lock in the hubs but guess what you wont be getting stuck with that manual transfer case engagement either.

too many electronics ruined everything , who needs a backup camera, etc.?

Paying 45,100 is not insane to a lot of collectors with very deep pockets, such as Jay Leno. They wouldn't bat an eye for something rare or extremely low mileage for their collections.

I agree but do they really want a generic 93 Toyota Truck in their collection of amazing vehicles? It's not old and it's not rare. I still see them on the road as daily drivers. The only thing that truck has going for it is the low miles. I guess a few people wanted it pretty badly though. It will be interesting to see if we see it for sale again all cleaned up and with the dents fixed.

One thing maybe to consider is the total lack of an equivalent vehicle on the new market. You just can’t buy a truck of that size and simplicity any more.

Many of us who were around in the 70’s through the 90’s fell in love with the Japanese mini trucks of the time. They were groundbreaking vehicles and very capable. Unfortunately remaining examples are getting rare and expensive. While this truck might seem like a rot buggy to us Southern folk, most northerners would equate the chassis rust to a one or two year old truck. Add a bunch of disposable income to the mix and the price starts to make some sense.
Not that you’ll catch me spending anywhere near that on any vehicle. I’m happy with my $500 beater, thank you!

    Like, so many.
For sure, but I just don’t think this collector worthy. Other than low miles, it’s just very plain.

I am sure some of us remember their first car/truck that they fell in love with, and now, 30 years later same exact one down to the color is offered for sale in almost brand new condition, and you have all the money to make it yours again. Nostalgia, some people can afford it ;)

I think I paid $22,000 cash for my 2006 Tacoma and don't see myself paying the new Tacoma prices, so most likely my next Tacoma will be used, the first used vehicle for me since 1985.

CRAZY...my parents bought their first new home in 1960 for $30,000, now it's worth $445,000, so better to put your money into real estate than vehicles if you are young.

Probably true for most common vehicles, although buying a few early muscle cars they might have done even better. Of course they would have had to pick the right ones. With my luck I would have bought an Edsel or a Peugeot.

To a point, so would I. But not for that price!

Pick the RIGHT ones, of which there is a 0.00001% chance of picking the right one, then you have seal it up in a plastic bag and never use it.

At least with Real Estate, you can actually USE your investment. Hell you can even customize and make improvements to it. No one cuts the price because you don't still have the original knob and tube wiring.

I remember my first car - Zastawa 1100 (yugo). I wouldn't want that PoS even if it's brand new and for free. (unless they pay me enough for the trouble of towing it to a crash yard).

How long do you plan to keep your 1995 Tacoma, you must have maintained it well to still be driving a 26 year old Tacoma with 335k miles?

I'm gonna drive it as long as Toyota or aftermarket will provide parts for it. The good thing is that Tacoma does not require extensive (and expensive) maintenance - mostly fluid change and fix whatever gets broken or damaged. Actually I'm going to perform my first major maintenance in many years - valve clearance check. There is no reason other than preventive and finally get away from people nagging me, that it must be done every 100k miles. Tacoma already went through very serious surgery (about 10 years ago) - head gasket blown, but besides time (it was some learning curve involved) we (my son and I) did it for cheap (I think 100 something dollars for OEM gasket kit). I don't know if my son did check the valve clearance or not, so probably not. I really abused last year so now it's waiting for my time to do the scheduled maintenance.

I had to dig through my old saved posts on Facebook but I found what I was looking for. Wonder why there's so much rust? It sat in a barn with a dirt floor. Moisture city. Here's the caption from the original post and all of the photos.

"So we all hear about barn finds, well, I met a man a couple years ago and he told how he had bought this new 1993 Toyota DLX 4X4 at Berlin City here in Gorham and ended up parking it in the barn and Never used it for the last 28ish years. It has less than 100 miles on it and is really incredible condition All Over ( needs a really big bath and complete service). Peggy and I are very excited to own this great little truck!! Stand By for updates." - Tom Doyon 223429741_10222268492634490_1588493742044828514_n.jpg
