Does anyone make a durable bug screen that mounts behind the grill?
The openings in my offroad grill are letting alot of bugs through and they're plastered all over the radiator. Are there any nice screens commercially available to stop this? Or should I build my own

I don't know of anyone that sells those. I know the TREX grilles are good at preventing sticks and bugs from damaging the radiator.

Just use cheap screen and zip tie it on the inside. I’ve done it to all my vehicles.

    pics will follow shortly

CustomCarGrills might have, or be able to make you something custom if you ask about it. I haven't actually ever used their products, but I know they have both mesh sheets and precut grills.

This is similar to what I plan to make if noone has one available. Did you use aluminum or fiberglass screen

I purchased some aluminum window screen. I'll post a picture or two after I get it installed sometime this weekend

If you look at a piece of screen it is about 20-25% metal or some other material. Imagine covering up 20% of your air flow through the radiator, which is what you will be doing. Also when your fan is working, it's performance will be compromised due to the added restriction. For the engineers here (not me) refer to fan stall and static pressure.
Take a piece of screen and hold it out the window while you're going down the road (someone else driving). It will be hard to hold and equals added restriction, reduced airflow. I would not put it on.

    WILSON!!!!!

Yeah, you have logic, maybe not mated to the radiator. But a layer (years) of (bugs / pebbles / debris) (damage fins) would probably do worse than the screen with whatever screen percentage variable

I get it. A few inches away should be okay, ambient airflow should be fine, 70+mph forced airflow will be okay, X +/- more in headwind.

Edit: the screen can be applied far enough away from the radiator, there would be little to no issue.

I agree that it will slightly restrict airflow. But fins getting bent over will do the same and is harder to remedy than changing a dirty screen. I suppose it depends on which you are worried about, and the area you drive in

Cloudrider makes exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a powder coated metal bug-juicer that fits behind the grille and a piece goes across the front under the grille. Keeps the rad nice and clean. Need something like this in Manitoba in the summer.

Decided on this 1/4" wire mesh, I'll cut sections to fit and install with self tapping screws 20211113_110200.jpg

I have done the same since 1975 when a stone flipped up and pierced the A/C coil on a Datsun F-10. The screen doesn't need to stop a stone, just slow it down. The screen also makes it easy to clean the bugs off.
