There is bodily damage to the truck. But, instead of having that repaired (say a small dent), I would like to be paid for the value of the repair and decide how I want to spend the money.

    Is this possible?

Instead of paying the body shop for removing the dent, I would like the money it would cost to fix it. I would like to buy new tires with that money.

Yes, its a settlement. You won't get the exact estimated value but you can work it out with them.

    Who is at fault?

ICBC may try and tell you that they won't do a cash settlement so you may have to be insistent.

I have done this in the past with a vehicle they wanted to write off. They let me wheel and deal with the bodyshop and I got a deal done. It was even a vehicle I had already rebuilt with rebuilt status. It helped that it was a rare vehicle.
