I’m sure I’m not the only one with this problem so I’m hoping to get some ideas. Yes I know it’s a first-world problem. Humor me

I have a detached two car garage and two Quads (Honda 450R & Honda 300ex) which live in there (along with other MC’s and things). They take-up a lot of floor space. If I park them side-by-side I have to park my car on an angle (not a deal-breaker does make it awkward). If I move them nose-tail then there isn’t enough room to park my dual-sport MC behind them so it either ends-up behind my car or outside.

Floor space is also at a premium because I have industrial shelving on the floor along one side of the garage and two work benches along the back wall.

What I would like to do is build some sort of Quad ‘Bunk Beds’ along the wall with no shelving wall and store them on top of each other. My issue is how to get the one on the top up (and down) from it’s perch as it were. Long ramps are out as I’d need some really long ones and that comes with a whole other set of problems. I’m considering adding an overhead hoist (I have an open ceiling and a very large wooden beam running down the center which I could attach it to) but before going to that extreme I want to see what others in this situation are doing.

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any ideas!

I just finished pouring a 14x14' pad for my 12X14' shed. Not huge but enough space so my detached 25x30' insulated shop will become usable. First time I ever had an insulated shop, and frankly it's very easy to heat.

Anyway - I have no magic answer for your situation, I saw no personal solution until I actually had more floor space. Having a shed for other smaller vehicles and carts and wheels/tires and all the OPE, plus shelves for bins will cost me north of $5K all said and done, but the hefty perfect level concrete pad (12" thick in back) was a fraction of it as I had tons of other concrete work going on and the guy threw it in for just the cost of the concrete!

Thanks for the suggestion! I should have mentioned I already have a 12’x12’ wooden shed which houses the other three ATV’s. I had that shed built not long after I bought my house as it quickly became obvious that I was going to need the space. My long-term plans are to close the gap between my house and garage and expand my two-car garage into a three, but that’s still a year or two away from happening.

I have the space to build another shed but am holding off as I don’t want to turn my backyard into a Shantytown LOL!

Hahaha that's what my wife said! I got a little panicky when I thought a 12x14" shed would be too small. But I should be fine.

Another point in common, I am going to cover shop to house garage "gap"............eventually. It is a perfect breezeway just not covered. But here's the rub, I don't think I could frame it myself, and I can't even seem to get bids! Framers are all too busy. The shop side is not at all parallel to the house side. different heights and 4 different roof lines going on.

Yep, sounds like we’re in a similar boat LOL!

I’m lucky in that my house and garage are in-line with each other and have the same elevation, however I know nothing about Framing. Prices for material and labor are through the roof right now so I’m waiting, which while frustrating is easy for me. For my ‘73 VW Thing which lives under a cover behind my garage, well the new addition can’t come soon enough!

I happen to have gotten lucky on being able to get these things for a deal in the first place, but I've found pallet racking invaluable. We store engines and transmissions(and in some cases, the whole front half of cars)on these racks at work, and they never even hinted at failure, or had an issue as far as I'm aware. If I had a larger space, I wouldn't hesitate to run these things along the entire back wall; I have seen a guy with a bigger shop store about 6-8 Banshees along the top, with various dirt bikes and a few quads along the bottom. Works great.
