Okay here’s my situation, I own a 2005 4Runner that has a blown head gasket. I absolutely love this car and I have already modified it quite a bit. However I want to throw a new motor in it but rather than putting the stock v6 4.0 liter engine in it, I want to do a v8 4.7 in there. Has anyone done a swap like that before and what did it take?

*side note- my car is absolutely everything I want and it’s hard to come by the same car with all of the things I like. (Seats/ hood scoop/ etc.) personally this car fits every one of my needs and I haven’t been able to find one like it. It has 288k miles on it as well.

I have considered this as well if my 4.0 ever lets go, I did the head gasket about 70k ago though and don’t really ever expect to “need” to do it, may just get bored eventually and do it. What's your plan for the donor? A full salvage so you can pull the harness, tranny, etc. would probably be easiest vs a crate motor and having to source everything.

you would probably need to get a full donor 4runner and even then it would be a good amount of labor. Might be fun though I love my 2004 V8 4Runner.

I had an 06 v6 at first...ended up buying a v8 and swapping everything over, then selling the v6.
