I have an idea for a modification for my rear bumper.

What is the thickness of the material where the shackle bolts to in this picture (circled in white)?

    Thanks.

Not to be a smart ass, do you have a tape measure? Most all of the mounts are for 3/4" shackles, so they're a bit less width.

I do have a tape measure but not the actual bumper/tab to measure. So I'm guessing that tab is half an inch thick, maybe more?

I have that exact bumper. Mine measures 1/2" thick.

1/2 would be great. Just measured mine and it's 3/8. It's heavy enough as Is thoughpq

Thank you. Exactly what I wanted to know.

I'm thinking about cutting a slot in the factory bumper, then taking a piece of steel that bolts to the frame using the bolts that hold the bumper on (they will need to be longer), it will protrude slightly from the bumper so you can attach a shackle to it.

    Something like this crude drawing:

If you do that make sure and pull from straight on and not side load the bolts. Bumpers have weaker spots that would give in first, a solid ass block of steel doesn't

I have a new factory bumper and the metal part that's behind it that attaches to the frame in my house.
I'm going to get some cardboard and see where the plate can bolt to. I've read that you want the plate as close to the frame as possible so when you pull, you don't bend/break anything.

Is there a reason a hitch mounted shackle wouldn't work for your setup? The metal plate you make would need to be about 12-18" to reach the bolt holes on the frame and would take some modification on the bumper mounts themselves to allow the extra width of the material you'd be adding.
