Phone Holder

Howdy gang, wondering if anyone has recommendations for phone holders.

I currently use one that sticks into the vent but its not doing it for me as its either too close and gets blocked by steering wheel or too far and i have to reach across the dash to get to it.

I bought the TeckDeck by BirdDawg Industries + a 1" RAM ball, and use a Ram X grip with the short holding arm to mount my phone.

Vala, I've had the HUMIXX one that I ordered from Amazon about a year ago. Once it was attached to the inside of my windshield it has not moved......including a 5000 mile trip to Utah and lots of wheeling through the desert there. It was about $30 but has been super.

Forgot to mention im in Canada (EH!) so would be great to get some local suggestions as well (don't mind pay duty.... haha duty but would rather avoid it)

sweet ill look for a Canadian alternative as this looks like it would be a good fit!

 

I hate the suction cup ones and the vent clips only work well in some vehicles. I feel like the OEMs need to start building in some sort of mounting or holding solution or provisions to mount one. Although, I guess Carplay and the like may be solving that issue.

I also hate any of the clamp or cradle style ones. Magnets of nothing for all our vehicles. For me, this was hands down the best solution: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mod-a-pillar-ram-mount-gps-phone-holder.372250/ I got mine setup with a magnet and it works GREAT.

Shut it off, place in pocket, focus on driving. There isn't a phone/email/text/tweet in the world worth a moment of distraction.

Remember, at 60 mph you are covering 88 ft every second. You can run the conversion for metric. Or roughly 4 Tacoma lengths......

<Edit> 70 mph is 103 ft/sec More than 5 lengths of the Tacoma.

 

Agreed, OEMs really need to sort this out. I use Waze on my phone so need it at dash level. Now with spotify integration im touching it more often than before.

With bluetooth integration i just hit the display on the dash to answer and texts can definitely wait. But i use it as my GPS and speed-trap finder so need the phone in safe visible view of the windshield so i can focus on driving

Geez, way to jump to conclusions. Phones are smart these days, they do a lot more than calls, texts and social media. While driving my phone screen is essentially my "infotainment" system, just like a modern car will come with standard. GPS, Directions, Offroad trail maps, music, podcasts... The factory options for these services are useless so I'm forced to use my phone for all of them. And it's a hell of a lot more dangerous to have my GPS map screen be in my pocket or down in the center console than it is to have it front and center where I can use it without having to look down or away from the road. Or having to pull the phone out of my pocket to skip to the next song...

IMO having a properly mounted phone is actually a safety feature.

Yes, properly used an phone can be a benefit. Unfortunately, most are not properly used.

Studies of phone use while driving indicates an impairment level equivalent to driving above a 0.08 BAL (Blood Alcohol Level).

Thank you just the same. My phone rides in my pocket. Family/Friends know if I'm on the motorcycle or driving that I WILL NOT answer or respond.

GPS wise, I've been able to drive for many years with only minor direction miscues without a GPS. Don't expect this to change anytime soon.
Regarding playlist...... just let the next tune play. Doesn't make sense to scroll thru a list while hurtling down the road at 70 mph.

Had an Exshow. Worked great until it got hot out. The suction cup just wouldn't grab the windshield anymore. Got another suction cup type from WallyWorld ( don't remember the name) but this one has a black suction cup. This should assist with rubber or plastic exposed to ultraviolet light . We'll see how this one works.

Kidding aside, I appreciate Waze rerouting for accidents and traffic, hidden police, cars stalled on the emergency lane, etc.. I need that info while I commute.

I mounted this on the windshield Left of the gauge cluster, and my phone sits comfortably between the tach and vent. Going from a vent-clip mount to this is Night and Day. Feels like a nice low profile spot- and the magnet is secure. Will eventually route a cord for charging through the dash.

 

I use my phone for navigation since my 2019 SR5 doesn't have in-dash navigation and I never know where the hell I'm going!

 

Below is the phone mount I use, it's magnetic and comes with a little metal disk you stick to the back of your phone that has 3M adhesive on it, I put it under a phone case and it works perfectly fine.
