I think this sub-community has grown large enough to have its own thread, I haven't seen much of a thread or many videos on these builds. I see it become a thing now, more and more people building Tacomas that can destroy and survive. It's also so cool to see how people combine these two worlds and make it work, so love to see some pictures and crazy ideas on how to live out of Tacoma built to crush trials.

You sound like a Sierra Club spy.
Either way, please do not promote destroying/damaging/ or otherwise utilizing land inappropriately. Some of us would like to continue recreating responsibly for years to come.

He means destroy some rough trails, like "Sick man, you destroyed that trail." Just a phrase, no one is promoting irresponsible behaivor.

    "Destroying a trail" example:

I think you both misunderstand outsiders perception, especially given certain "verbal" que's. Whatever, carry on with your car camping thread

Anyone born after 1953 can easily pick up on the fact that it's slang and not literally destroying trails.

Still rocking SOA since all I do is crawl. I wanted all the clearance I could get under the axle. We should be moving west in two years and I’ll consider SUA/ bed cage and bypasses

I don't mean destroying public land. You definitely go fast on trials (example above) and In some places like my friend owns 40 acres of land we go on there and tear up the places cause it's his property and there definitely places that you can do that. But I'm talking "destroying trials" as like someone would destroy competition, you don't literally destroy the place you just conquer it, you go fast and also have the ability to explore.

That's awesome. What I see a lot of people dealing with is weight. You add all these mods how is that affecting your ride and suspension?

I purposefully kept my suspension very soft so it articulates easily in the rocks. I have 500 lb coils in the front. Ride is super smooth but that comes at the price of body roll, which I’m ok with.

Oh cool. I was thinking with all these exterior mods like roof rack, tent and mounts for it, lights, and possibly linex over the truck that I would need 600lb coils.

It all depends. Being LT, I’m able to squeeze an 18” long coil in there which is how I’m able to maintain a decent ride height with such a soft coil. No way I could get away with a 500 lb coil on mid travel

Glamping rigs are not prelanders - instafamous overland builds with only top of the line parts don't satisfy the prelander ethos imo

You could rename this thread "I am loyal to Tacomaworld, but like DezertRangers.com"

Seems to be the lightest rooftop tent on the market. Weighing at 93 Lbs. Be nice for the pre-lander build.

Anyone found a good solution to having an RTT w/ fiberglass bedsides?
