I ran up Bee Canyon trail yesterday and on the way back I ran into this. I really couldn't figure out how they managed to sheer off the wheel but I did take a look at the tire which was behind the truck. They were looking for help on the facebook recovery board and I offered some water and a ride back down but they were gonna stick around a bit longer. I advised them not to stay over night because they were ill prepared for the cold and still had a couple miles hike back down.

I'm not sure if it was something they did because the trail was relatively easy up to that point. My buddy was in stock 2015 jeep cherokee with street tires and he was doing fine.

    Just some stuff...
Hope everything worked out for them. Pretty damn cold at night. Sure would like to know the back story on that.

Yeah me too. They were a little tight on details and obviously not in a good place so I didn't press. At this point, what was done was done and my only concern was getting them off the mountain safely even if I couldn't pull them down myself.

I've been thinking, what this recovery would look like and I assumed some kind of flatbed with a winch cause that wheel/axle was fucked.

I don't have facebook but I'd be curious if anyone can see their post for help in the recovery group (which was the first time I heard about that).

Big log and ratchet straps to act as a ski on that side and drag that sucker out!

Yeah that's a good idea. Someone would have to bring up a big log or should there now be a big orange log strapped on to the overland rigs ? ;-)

Damage is cumulative, not necessary just what was recently done.

I foresee them coming back to smashed windows, no light bars, no wheels, and slashed interior

That's what they were worried about unfortunately.

Because when someone sees something nice abandoned in the desert, the urge to destroy it oftentimes rises to the surface
