Well, I was replacing my fluid in my brake/clutch system as part of the 200k mile tune up.

I bleed the brakes just fine. Then I went to bleed the clutch as well. Wife was working the pedal for me, she pressed and held, I cracked the line, dirty blackish fluid came out, I closed the valve. Told wife to release pedal. She stated it wouldn't come back up. I looked at the pedal and fluid was coming down it from the cylinder that sits on top of the pedal.

Anyone have any tips or tricks or write ups on this?

Seen this hundreds of times .
Time for a fresh master cylinder . All the black fluid removed when you did the bleeding procedure has a lot to do with worn seals in the master and slave .Those tiny particles that turned your fluid black were the seals . Very common
Bench bleed and install a fresh master as well as a fresh slave . If you have 200K on the truck , chances are the hydraulic controls for the clutch have been stroked over 1 million times .

For your sake, hopefully the 5sp is easier than the 6sp clutch master cylinder. I did it on my 6sp, whatta bitch. Almost gotta get lucky to get the hose and pipe attached to the new one.

For the life of me I cannot understand why they would place the clutch master cylinder in such a retarded location. It should be on the firewall where it belongs next to the Brake master cylinder. It should also have its own reservoir.

Soooo..... random update. It seems to have "fixed itself". Sort of. I came back out to the truck and the pedal seems to work fine now. In fact I was able to drive it to work just fine. The brake master cylinder is working fine. And the fluid in it is nice and clean after I did the flush. Also when I bleed the brakes I saw no serious issues of contamination. The fluid was slightly dull in color compared to the fresh new stuff, but no black gunk.

The black gunk only appeared when I bleed the clutch, so I assume the only cylinder I may need to replace will be the one attached to the pedal.

While it seems to be working just fine right now, I am going to assume I am on borrowed time and will take it as grace time to order the replacement part and hopefully for it to arrive.
