Anyone know if the damage spots in the photo is from sun damaged gelcoat or from perhaps auto clear coat someone put on that is now flaking off? As I recall (winter here so boat is covered and has snow on it), there were a couple spots where I can feel the roughness of the glitter flake.

This is a +/-1988 Stratos bass boat that I got for cheap. I don't need it to look like right off the showroom floor, but I'd like to try and clean this up. Thoughts?

prob the gelcoat paint coming off. Most likely bad prep or bad paint. Chevy was notorious for bad paint.

Wet sand, buff with compound, polish, then seal and wax. It’ll look like a new boat. I’ve done it many times. Lots of stuff on restoring gel coat on google searches. I used all 3M products on my boat but they’re many other gel coat restoring companies selling stuff. Good luck and it’s a lot of work but I’m the end it’s worth it.

3" lift on 33 inch Nitto's with 18" Fuel wheels. N-Fab step bars. Husky floor liners.
Baby oil. Wipe on let it soak in a little then wipe off excess. Look good for a month or two.

Did a little damage to the keel of my boat. Looks like the gel coat is damaged down to the fiberglass. I don’t see any pink fiberglass. Do you boat guys think this is okay to dunk for the occasional 3 or 4 hour fishing trip or should I get it repaired immediately?

It'll hold up just fine. Same has happened to my boat and its been in the lake 24/7 all summer. I've repaired it a few times already filling those spots with JB weld marine epoxy, then sanding it out with a thin gel coat finish.
