Careful how much you shorten the tongue, it will make backing up more difficult.
Good luck and interested to see the final product..

I'd like to see the old axle. I like these Timbren units, but man are they spendy!

I lengthened mine 15 inches. Huge difference in towing and handling.

Fun! I did something similar with an old 4x6 carry-on brand trailer I've had forever.... however, I don't recommend shortening that tongue tooooo much, I actually lengthened mine because it is a huge PITA to back the thing up. The longer tongue makes it so much easier

With everyone saying to leave it, I am definitely reconsidering. I just figured such a long tongue compared to size if trailer would suck in tighter areas

Yeah that could be true I suppose... the great thing about these little trailers is that they are super easy to just disconnect when you are in a jam and move if you need to. Although it's trickier with the 33" tires on there and it's a bit heavier overall but can def work in a pinch. I haven't taken mine in any super tight areas so that is definitely a consideration

it will suck a bit but having a short tongue will be awful.......

I debated a pintel. Ultimately the lock-n-roll looks easily worth the price

Tongue length varies by manufacture. A tongue length of 40-46 inches to the box (work/loading area) is good. Point I'm trying to make is.. if you can have the trailer hooked up and turned 90 degrees from what you are hooked to, and not hitting the trailer or vehicle. You are good. if you really want an adjustable tongue length (both short and long) this is doable. search it up on the line.

Yes sir, welded new hinges on in the last couple years. It’s been our family firewood trailer as long as I can remember.
