It was the physical size of the engine, aftermarket support and simplicity. LS swaps are as simple as they get.

And if you’re buying in Cali. Good luck with that! Average home price in Cali. is at $800k from what I saw on a News cast.
    I truly wish you luck!

    @munkeywrench,
Ok time to bring this tread back from the dead, so it’s time for an update.
Inquiring minds would like to know did you sale the truck and buy a home?

Well guys, I decided to keep my truck after a lot of back and forth. I was very close to saying bye to her but the deal fell through and decided to her after all. Unfortunately I have not bought a home though. Its nearly impossible to find a home for a decent price is So Cal right now.

No real updates on the truck other than racking up the miles and she's running strong with no real issues.

The most recent change I've made to the truck is adding a bigger radiator. I am not sure if I mentioned it before but this truck is my daily driver and commute 100 miles a day. California traffic is no joke and I had to make sure she stays cool. The radiator I went with is a 3 row Champion 33x20.

Just a pic of how shes sitting right now.

Well congrats on keeping the track and Sorry about purchasing a house. Might want to consider relocating out of Cali. to purchase if employment allows it?
Have any idea what the truck gets for fuel economy?
    Oh, love the plate…

Unfortunately leaving Cali is out of the question for the foreseeable future.

I actually just filled up about an hr ago. I got 290 miles out of a full tank and I pumped 17.3 gallons making my MPG around 16.7.

    Ok Thanks,
Sorry again about purchasing a house. Even here in the Phoenix area price’s are getting stupid because they “speculators” are purchasing most houses here for rentals or raising the prices after putting lipstick on a pig then flipping. They did that to a house on are street. They decided to paint the cabinets and the contractor didn’t even wipe the dust of the cabinets. Just taped and shot paint over beautiful red oak cabinets. I asked the worker why not prep better he said they are just flipping it…
Also I would think the fuel economy would be better being the truck is lighter than GM trucks.

I'm glad you kept it and it's still running good for you. This build inspires me to swap one into my truck. Wish you luck on getting a house.

i didnt see it posted, but what did you do for the fuel system? Did you keep the tacoma tank and drop in a LS pump? Completely new system? Im LS swapping a tundra now and am doing research. I would like to use the stock tank and adapt fuel lines to it to run up to the fuel rails.

I am using the stock tank and a Walbro 320 fuel pump. There wasn't much modification needed to make the Walbro fit in the stock fuel pump assembly. Im using 3/8" fuel lines and 5/16" return. You can run the lines directly to the fuel rails as long as you have the return type intake manifold. Otherwise you can go with the C6 fuel filter that has the fuel return on it.

    Any pictures of the Tundra?

Thanks for the info. Ill be using a TBSS/NBSS returnless intake manifold and using the corvette filter/regulator as ive used in the past.

The Walbro 320 pump shows a pressure rating of 41psi. Any issues with it? Most LS applications require 58psi.

Its still a work in progress, but i have a build thread here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/the-cream-pie-a-2005-4wd-ls-5-speed-sas-conversion.50841/

Nice! Ive had no issues with the 320 pump and it makes about 55 at idle. Im using the e85 compatible pump. Im not sure if that makes a difference.

Hi, so I'm about to do a 4.8 vortec swap in my 08 base model. I ended up buying the whole truck to do the swap. Would it be better to make my own engine mounts like munkeywrench? Or cut and weld/bolt the pre existing mounts on the chevy truck?

If I were to do again Id go with GM mounts or something like them. My mounts are everything I needed but they are solid and you can feel a little more vibrations.

A little update on the truck.... were going E85!

This was something I've been wanting to do for a while and the recent gas prices made it happen. Its over $6 a gallon for 91 where I live and E85 is a little over $3 so even with the 20% decrease in MPG there still should be about a 30% gain in there right? We'll be saving a little money and getting the high octane out of the E85.

The setup is relatively simple and will be able to run flex fuel. I already had a Walbro 320 pump in the tank so that should be plenty for e85.

I used the GM flex fuel sensor part no 13507128 on the feed side of fuel rail. This sensor gets 12v, ground and the signal wire gets wired into pin #56 of the PCM.

50lb Flex Flex fuel injectors. I had to use adapters from ICT Billet to make the injectors fit the stock fuel rail.

    Flex Fuel tune going in

I used a stock Tahoe Flex Fuel file for the tune and modified it a bit. I have not pumped E85 yet but will keep you guys updated. I'm really curious to see what only changing the fuel will do.
