Camper Shell Window Seals - Where to Find (Leer 122)

Hi folks, wanted to see if the considerable knowledge pool here could help advise on where to find some of the window seals for my Leer 122 75K.

1) Exterior perimeter seal for windoors, it has a profile that allows it to be jammed into the frame on the outside and it basically holds the glass in place.




2) Seal that holds the rear window glass and is shoved into the rear window frame. One youtube video suggests using a kind of channel glazing that's used in glass shower doors like

this, but wondering if there's a more OEM/Leer/cap specific seal out there.




3) Seal that goes on the inner part of the windoor frame (still facing outside), which mates with the windoor frame when it is closed. Meaning, the seal that is part of the windoor open/close contact but is in the stationary frame that stays on the shell and does not flip out. It goes into a channel in the window frame and then also has a bulb on the other side of the channel.



4) Seal that goes on the inner part of the windoor frame (still facing outside), which mates with the windoor frame when it is closed. Same as 3) above but on the driver's side. For some reason the windoor frames are slightly different on the different sides--the driver's side does not have the channel that the passenger's side does and so the seal is different.





Grateful if anyone could share any thoughts on where to find these seals as I want to replace mine with as good as possible. Thanks in advance. Also happy to dig through a catalog or webstore if anyone has an idea of who might carry these types of seals.

Two links I have saved that have some parts; maybe you can find what you need on one of them.

 

Or just go to a Leer dealer. Be nice and ask for no-warranty, no questions asked bulk seals for replacement. Measure before you go and double check that you order enough (and a little extra to measure thrice, cut once).

 

if its still under wasranty just tell em to give you some. Or Amazon, btw I used this bubble top seal for the bed instead of the crappy thin rubber the dealer gives $20 on amazon if you have leak issues

 

Any thoughts on what the best adhesive is for gluing the edge of the window into the channel glazing seal that goes around the back window? Basically, I did what the guy in the video below did but I used a cheap glue to try to keep the seal from pulling through on either side over time. Worked for a while but the back window gets hot and the adhesive just becomes goo and the seal slides around the glass after a couple months. I took it all apart again in order to re-tint the window and figured I should glue the seal on better this time.

So, would be grateful if anyone can help with: 1) what's the best adhesive to glue the channel seal onto the edge of the glass all the way around and 2) what works best to soak an old thin seal in so that it regains some of its pliability and heft (simple green, wintergreen oil etc.)?

 

I just purchased a Leer camper shell and the rear rubber is also shot. After a day of searching the web I was able to find this.

That one looks like it will be tighter, I might order some too as a backup for when my current rehabed original seal finally gives up and snaps/crumbles. Nice find!

 

OP, did you ever find something similar to the weather stripping that you reference in #3 of your original post?

I just scored a used Leer 100XL (I'm pretty sure) and that would work great on the interior fiberglass on the fixed/frameless windows.

 

Regrettably no, I did a fairly comprehensive search and bought samples from a number of companies that sell seals for older camper shells and motorhomes. I also went to several large camper shell places and they let me sift through their old seals and junkyards--no luck. My conclusion after wrestling with it for a while is you're unlikely to find exact matches for those camper shells that are from 10+ years ago and so you can (i) try to restore the old seals using evergreen oil and other tricks and/or (ii) find "close enough replacements" which doesn't work on like the glazing seals where you need an exact fit to get the bead of the seal to snap into the frame.

For that one (#3 above) I tried several off of Amazon and this one was the best. Still going strong over a year after I replaced it. It's not perfect but it's slightly too big which is actually a good thing, makes a tight seal, even though I have to push the window gently when I latch it to get it to snug all the way into the seal.

Bummer. I just recently got an older camper shell that is a great match for my truck but, yeah, finding that refurbishing it is a bit harder than I would have initially thought. Definitely doing some thinking outside of the box at this point. It'll all work out. Thanks much man.

 

Totally! Yeah, I would say like stick with it--it can be rewarding to make them look new/newish again. Mine was from Michigan and had seen a lot of salt, but swapping out the metal parts is not that hard and you can get them powder coated. Struts are easy to find online. The latches/T-handles and stuff are also fairly easy to find. And with the seals I've had good luck just with stopping by shell places and asking to see what they have on hand or what they have from old shells and sometimes you get lucky. Some places that I've found helpful:

- Century Distributing, Inc. (they have a real customer service department that can help you find things), biggest online selection of camper parts, I did a lot of the easy seals, the handles, new keys, the little rubber covers etc. etc. from them
- Truck Outfitters Plus - Truck Accessories, Truck Toppers and Topper Parts, not cheap but they have a few hard to get things
- Leer Truck Cap Parts & Replacements | Cap Replacement Parts | (siraweb.com), not cheap but big selection

Amazon.com: ESI Super Cap Seal XL 20 FT (2 1/8" Width x 1/2" Height x 20' Length) EPDM Rubber for Caps Over 200 lbs : Automotive, I did the two bulb one initially, but have been super happy with the three bulb one--the Leer that I have is heavy enough that it really needs three bulbs and also it is wide enough that it needs them (even if the bedrails themselves are narrower than the seal).

I also bought seal samples from a few outfits, but none matched the locking bead seals that Leer used on my camper shell windows.

Interesting that you feel the 3 bulb tape is a better fit than the two. I've been hemming and hawing about which tape to get (2 or 3 bulb, or even the bulb-less tape that's still EPDM, made by ESI. ). When I bought this cap, the seller and I picked it up and put it on my truck. Based on that, I figure this thing weighs under 200. It wasn't all that heavy. It has no interior headliner.

I've read that the 2 bulb keeps the camper sitting higher than most people expect. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, but i figure it's going to be visible.

In any event, one of these days I gotta get this thing propped up and remove the old tape, clean things up and install new. Might just bite the bullet and start with some new 2 bulb. Just don't really have the time to be doing things twice, so stalling a bit on making a decision, lol!

If you have a pic of your camper on your bed rails with the 3 bulb, it would definitely be helpful.
