TORSPD: NEVR

Intercooler, tune in transient throttle, and then swap back in the Kelford intake camshafts. Beginning of next year, is going to be busy.

Still need to schedule a time to build the rest of @BassAckwards 2TR turbo header.

Hoping that tomorrow or Wednesday, I can start the turbo down-pipe mock-up, on my friend's truck.

 

How does Jan 8th-9th sound? If there is a weekend that'd work better, just let me know and we can work out the details

 

Haven't received my new work calendar yet. I'll know come the first.

Sounds like a plan

 

Bring all of the material you can. So we can make as much as possible happen.

 

To be honest, the idea had crossed my mind more than once recently, to lift it back up. That JD Fab kit, plus flood waters, have the thoughts running through my mind.

Before anything else crazy, the frame needs to be protected from rust, and boxed.

The passenger side seems to be taking a bigger hit of damage. Including the bolt hole for the radiator.



TIG brazed the material back together. Used muriatic acid to clean the metal. Prior to acetone. Used a backing plate of aluminum. Smoothed out the filler after the fact. Looks like a made a couple of "Q's".



Painted the bare surfaces with Steelit, while waiting for the next available time to be able to braze this plate on. In its rough draft form.

 

Always used to be a very tight fit between the bottom of the intercooler, and AN fittings. It was also a pain in the ass to remove the hardware from the oil cooler, to drain it during an oil change. New lower holes, with stainless rivet nuts FTW. As well as a triangulation support for the bracket.



The rivet nuts above in the core support were also added. They will be the lowering mounting holes for the intercooler.

Got a case of the distractions, trying to get this intercooler mounted. Distracted by all sorts of little things here and there that have been neglected for too long.

Brazed this stainless backing plate on, then welded it to the front plate. I really take no joy in a TIG torch and these body panels....it isn't pretty, but dammit, it will hold! I need a MIG welder....






Then started the work on mounting the intercooler. As I am welding this on, my friend with the 2TR pulled up, ready to start working on his down-pipe for the manifold that I built.

 

More "since I am in there" fixes and why not but another reason for more torch time.

This piece was damaged back when the truck was lifted. Overkill, but who cares.



Intercooler is mounted. Been juggling other projects. So I have not yet finished connecting the inlet and outlet.

Finished the down-pipe for the 2TR. v-band flanges are on order, to connect the down-pipe to the catbatck.

 

Bungs added for the top mounting solution. Piece of cake. Reused the bracketry that came with the URD intercooler. Why make the task unnecessarily harder, eh?

The studs have since been replaced with bolts, for ease of serviceability.




May add in another attachment point to the center, to give some more rigidity to that top cross support. Flimsy sheet-metal. Le sigh. If I could take that piece off easily, I would and would add some underside reinforcements to it, like I did to the lower bumper support. It needs it.

Welded this cast aluminum Vibrant Performance 3" 90°, last night, with what little window of time was available. One more bend is on the way.

If you a referring to the one which I took out, then no. It is a 3.5" thick core. Possibly the same manufacturer. That I do not know.

Mine is a Garrett Turbo core, with Treadstone Performance end-tanks. Specifically due to the fact that they came with the splitters welded in. To prevent an eddy current of air in the bottom of the intercooler.

My core is also 3" thick.

I didn’t know if you were showing us the difference between the URD and the one you have.

So they are saying that the intercooler cooler is producing heat?

A pattern of circular flow. Vortex, etc. Choose a synonym of your liking.

The inlet and outlet are both at the top. There will be an amount of air the will stay at the bottom and circulate, while the air at the top crosses over that lower boundary of air. Path of least resistance. As not all of the lower air is forced through.

The divider/separator, forces all of the air through. Like a wing in the air, one portion of flow will flow faster than the other. It will have to "catch-up" with the other. This would be the lower catching the upper. As it has a further distance to travel. It won't create lift, however cool that would be, but it might create more downforce.

 

Could have just bought your old one.

When you’re TIG brazing with silicon bronze, do you also use flux so it flows into gaps better?

I was going to torch braze until I discovered they have rolls of low fume silicon bronze MIG wire. Going to give it a shot.
