Anyone in the Fresno area have their roof weather strips left after placing an OEM roof rail. Messed up mine when going to place my prinsu cab rack

I'm curious how you messed yours up? I just bought a used prinsu and swapped roof weather strips with the seller. He cut his weatherstrips to mount the rack directly to the roof and used silicone to prevent any leaks so the weather strips he gave me came in 3 pieces versus the one original piece. Can't you use the weather strips you have and add silicone to fill in any gaps in the seal?

I was trying to drill through the weather strip to have a more clean look. Ended up just cutting and doing what you mentioned. Still looks great and was much easier to do.

I realize this thread is old but I’m having this issue now. I removed my Prinsu rack and sold it, then tried to use silicon to fill in the holes where the roof rack was mounted.

I used commercial-grade silicon and the roof still leaks. I’m not sure what the issue is but now it seems that I have to spend $3,000,000 to buy two new pieces of weatherstripping and replace it completely.

It’s not a leak I can ignore, I tried doing that for a while but it was literally dripping water on my head the other day when it was raining.

If anyone has any suggestions I could try before spending the outrageous amount of money they want for two pieces of rubber weatherstripping, I’d greatly appreciate any advice; I have no clue how the water is penetrating the silicon.

    Heres a cheap alternative.
You probably didn't clean the old silicone out well enough, but you could probably run a bolt in and out to clean it out and try again.
If I ever remove my rack id probably fill the holes in with silicone then put the 3m paint protectant over the holes before siliconing the weatherstripping back down.

Thanks for the link, that’s a life saver. I’ll definitely buy those and give them a shot before I dish out the cash for the OEM strips.

That’s some good info on plugging the holes. I used plastic snap screws (same kind that hold the bumper on) to fill the holes. Then covered those with silicon; clearly didn’t work out lol

Yeah that was definitely your problem! You can use those snap screw to fill the holes if you want to but you wanna fill the holes in with silicon before you slam those bad boys in. The weatherstripping isn’t the problem so if you’re replacing them because of the leak you’re wasting your money. Just pull those plugs and reseal the holes generously and you’ll be fine.

Oh awesome, thanks man. I’ll do that instead of getting the new weather stripping.

Only problem is I will have to dig out all the silicone to pull those plugs up. Oh well, live and learn.

I’m way late but use flex seal tape over the holes. No chance will it leak.

I appreciate the info! Funny enough, that’s exactly what I wound up using and I haven’t had any issues since. That stuff is awesome.

I used it for the exact same thing. Zero leaks as well. It’s amazing how it sticks to wet stuff too. I used it for something else one just to hold some cardboard over a hole. Masking tape, fell right off. Duck tape, fell right off. Flex tape not only stuck right away but was almost impossible to get off the next day.

Yeah that stuff is gold! I bought a can of the spray to have on hand in case I need it after seeing how good the tape works. I think in a few years when the silicon I used to seal the holes gets old, I might use the flex seal spray to seal it up again.
