8E701CCE-33E0-437B-8BE4-ACB56D4AF7FA.jpg Recently got gifted this miele cva 615 automatic brew unit from my uncle!
Maybe a 10 year old machine but it only had 1500 cups brewed.
But basically life changing machine lol
    Fully automatic
Grinds the beans, packs the puck, brew, dump into waste unit. Repeat !
    Almost too easy.
anyways I’ve been going thru about 5 lbs of coffee between the woman and I once a month. Where do y’all buy good cheaper bulk espresso beans ?
(Very burnt on costcos beans at the moment.)

Also what alt milks do people use for frothing/lattes.
Silk brand oat and coconut milk both froth pretty good
And so delicious coconut creamer froths great.
So far my favorite has been the silk vanilla oat milk.

I use Califa Barista Blend oat milk and I love it. I tried almond milk but it wasn't creamy enough or flavorful enough, and I could never get good microfoam. The Califa has great flavor (I like it better than dairy milk) and foams great. I can get latte art quality microfoam out of it. The instructions on the box say to texture it for only 3-5 seconds and they're right, though I'm sure that's affected by how powerful your steam is. I've got a Gaggia Classic with a Silvia wand on it.

I haven't delved into coffee as much as most do. But my favorite coffee so far is Cafe Du Monde replacing the Kona coffee beans

I've been picking up some really unique imported beans from Marshalls or Homegoods. I'm enjoying a 2.5lb bag of Edinburgh Whiskey whole beans imported from Scotland. It's incredibly great as I enjoyed coffee years ago in Scotland. You can find a lot of great beans there at a fraction of the cost.

    Cheers!

Cafe du Monde makes the world's best cold brew. if you can get along with that level of chicory, that is.

I use an aeropress (switched from a french press)...We have a local coffee roaster in town that is amazing...The smell alone makes you float like Fred Flintstone...
Their Island Collection Coffees are great
    https://www.armeno.com/collections/islands
    My absolute favorite is
Lions Gate Prime 100% Kona - The beans are HUGE and so fantastic. ZERO acidity...
    But that's pricey...
    So I compromise with
Maui Red Catuai - It has a roasted butter/nut flavor...

I also enjoy some of the fair trade varieties especially from Ethiopia. It's interesting because until I tried more high end coffee I never realized there really are flavor profiles just like Wine...This coffee has a very "fruity" flavor...Very different from your medium roast donut shop

What kind of grinders are you all using? I've been going with the baratza encore for a few years but just picked up a pretty pricey hand grinder and I'm liking it so far but just looking for some other options.

I have a few, or more, hand grinders. Zassenhaus mostly.

    Coffee bloom demonstrated:

    Just out of the grinder:

Now with the initial water pour-over:

    upload_2021-12-27_13-16-19.jpg

The fresher the coffee, the more it will "bloom." I roasted this coffee 5 days before these pictures were taken. You can see the difference when the coffee is 2-3 weeks old. I try to limit my roasting to no more than I'll drink in three weeks...two is even better.

My local co-op has some great bulk coffee options. I'm partial to central/south America and Indonesian stuff.

I really like Hawaiian coffee but it's hard to find anything that isn't pre-ground. Macadamia/vanilla is really good, even the Kona chocolate too

Haven't gotten into making espresso at the house, just drip. And pour-through when tailgating out in the woods

You can buy green beans in bulk and store it, but recommend limiting the amount you buy each time if it's already roasted.

I used to use my drip coffee machine at home, but this year I switched to using a pour-over. What I like about it is that I don't have coffee sitting around in the pot for hours. I make it one cup at a time. I still have my SCA certified drip machine, but I only pull it out when I have several heavy coffee drinkers visiting...lol

Certified Home Brewers — Specialty Coffee Association (sca.coffee)

Very similar to my current home setup:

Electric "gooseneck" kettle, ceramic Hario pour over, with the metal screen as seen in my coffee bloom pictures above. I do one cup at a time, straight into my mug.

I roast my own using a thrift shop, $10 air popper. Best coffee I have ever tasted!
85g for approximately 5:30 for medium roast, YMMV. After that it needs to outgas for 36-48 hours and into my Jura E8 it goes. Three pounds of green beans yields about 2 pounds of coffee.
Do roast it outside, it’s a smoky and slightly messy process. Trust me, once you roast your own you will never buy pre roasted coffee again.
