Dishonorable discharges qualify? A med board would not be dishonorable. It would be general. It's what I have even after two honorable terms. But only not even making it through basic is questionable. It's either med board and unable to reserve - general, dishonorable (not sure of the likelihood on this, they used to just recycle until you die lol), or honorable. What matters is the RE code. Right?

 

I never said type of discharge. A medical separation with an issued DD-214. The paperwork involved depends on the branch.

There are many cases lately where “less than honorable” discharges are receiving certain benefits, especially concerning homelessness and mental health care. Even though the member was separated with a bad conduct or dishonorable discharge, it seems that local communities really don’t like seeing people holding signs saying “homeless vet, please help” whether true or not. The last two Secretaries vowed to end veteran homelessness, no matter why that veteran was homeless.

 

Everyone is issued a dd214 when they get out. So the dd214 is not the qualifier. Less than honorable is still general, it's not automatically a dishonorable. That's all I was saying. You specified that the dd214 qualifies someone, and it doesn't. You are adding too much detail to this. Local communities have nothing to do with it.

Things have changed. There are certain “safety nets” that have been enacted for the lower discharges, especially where mental health issues and homelessness are concerned. It’s a scale - certain qualifiers mean more benefits. General medical care and disability pay still requires a higher degree of scrutiny, but the lower separations are no longer left out as they used to be.

Some states have also stepped up and started providing Medicaid services, despite discharge status, in homelessness cases.

The changes made were for political reasons by politicians, not by VA executives or other veterans.

 

Ok, show me an instance of someone getting VA disability with a dishonorable discharge with less than one full term served honorably.

 

I didn’t say they were getting disability. They’re receiving mental health care and are enrolled in a homeless program. That is a benefit, whether you agree to it or not. We’re making payments for housing and schizophrenia pills.

 

It depends on his discharge.

Everyone that served over 180 days even in basic has benefits.

Entry level separation. (IET Soldiers) no benefits.

Existing Prior to service (EPTS) no benefits. Including mental health issues.

Med board for being injured in basic benefits.

If it is a mental health issue they have to be cleared through Behavior health before any chapter is started.

I could go deeper into the actual chapter numbers but I don’t see the point on here.

I could careless about what some poser says to people as long as he’s not profiting or hurting anyone over it.

No, I got off track because captain america's blanket statements about dd214 being the qualifier - yes, it says you CAN qualify, it doesn't mean you do. There are too many other variables. Sorry, ignore it.
