Thinking of changing u joints to eliminate clicking sound under truck.

Had Spicer in mind to replace the old Moog ones.

Anyone else have any good recommendations for u joints brand?

Valuecraft or other brands any good?

this. Unless you’re lazy and won’t grease them then get the spicer SPL series.

it’s my thoughts the non greasable one is stronger, so if you’re going to be wheeling it may provide some extra performance in that regard. Not sure what the other benefits might be over greasable ones though.

Spicer is the OEM for Toyota for what it's worth.

Just did mine a week ago so go with Dana Spicer since they are the OEM for the entire drive shaft. Also even if you order your u-joint or center bearing after market they just send you the exact identical piece that you would get from Toyota just without the Toyota price and you can easily get them in rockauto. Word of warning get some extra retainer clips since the u-joint clips that come with ujoints will be a tight fit and will end up with them bulging out.

I got these from Amazon which are thinner than the clips that come with the ujoints which solved the bulging clips and kept the u-joint from being too tight.

Get the non greaseable spicers. Should have white seals vs the greaseable blue sealed units.

The reasoning is that the non greaseable has a triple seal on the caps and they are very much stronger.

I've replaced all of my ujoints 4 times. The greaseable spicers are more susceptible to water intrusion and I used to break them every 4-6 months.

I've since installed the non greaseable version the last go around and they've lasted almost 2 years.

Quite true. The non greaseable ujoints are there if you just want to set it and forget it. They will last a long time and if you want you can put some more Lucas red grease in them if you want the grease to last a bit longer.

On the other hand if you are the type of person who likes to do a lot of maintenance on your truck then you can just get the greaseable ujoints and grease them every six months. They can outlast the non greaseables as long as you can grease them periodically.

I prefer them because I’m not likely to service them. (I have non-greaseable ball joints for the same reason.). I don’t know if they are stronger. I would think, in order to reduce production costs, they would use the same ujoint body. I have noticed the non-greaseable ujoints are drilled at the ends - that’s where extra grease is stored. Somebody needs to cut some ujoints open to compare them.
