Anybody pulled off the rear bumper flush mount install? Just pulled my bumper caps off to size up the install and was wonder how others might have dealt with the interference fit with the internal bumper structure?

Clearly, I need to make a little more room behind the pod to get a gully flush mount and be able to make the plug connection. Figured I'd check in to review how others may have gone about this.

Are you happy with the aimpoint that you get from the bumper angle?

I set mine up underneath for now but still have the flush mount to still consider.

Yes i had mine exactly where you have them now. To me it didn’t look good. Moving them to in the bumper looks more stock

I would agree that flush is cleaner looking. Curious what you did to get the clearance in the inner bumper structure? How did you go about removing that structural material?

Yep, I saw in the location I would mount, it's primarily composite ribbing with some solid mass deeper in. I was curious as to whether he cut completely through or maybe just dremelled the ribbing. The almost clear without cutting but access is necessary for the rearward running deutsch connector.

Template of cutout over the cover. Dremel the hole. Solid foam insulation the shape of the LED light, pressed into hole, remove and see what needs to be removed.

My bumper was solid metal. There’s two brackets that are approximately couple inches past the license plate lights. I cut the holes on either side of the brackets . I used a saw zaw blade for metal and started with some pilot holes 904D5754-0ED2-4A30-8AA6-71E224AC1445.jpg1B2C8DBB-0BA5-4AEE-9579-1F09D0EF90FC.jpg

Dang, didn't realize 2nd Gen was a steel bumper.

I've got a few other mods to get completed of which the components have been stacked in the garage. I think I will make the change because it's the look I wanted before I bought them. Seeing the flood pattern work now, I don't think it will effect the pattern detrimentally as I first was concerned.
