Just bought a Hypertech speedometer calibrator (PN: 730107) from TireRack for my 2008 Tacoma to fix the speedometer reading due to over sized tires and a re-gear. After programming the module and plugging it into the cluster all of my gauges work except for, you guessed it, the speedometer. When driving my speedometer reads 0MPH. Not sure how this is possible that every light and gauge on the dash works expect for the speedo, that is this devices only job!!!! My program settings are producing a new ratio of .868. Seems right because I have sized up to 315/75R16 and geared down to 4.88. Has anyone experienced this before? I am thinking this little device is defective somehow.

Programming the module was pretty self explanatory. I don't think I made a mistake but I have never calibrated a speedo before so maybe it is operator error? I am posting a pic of the cal settings. I tried calibrating twice.

I am also posting a pic of the dash. Weirdly, my engine light came on and stayed on when I plugged the hypertech in. There is no way it is a coincidence, I am fairly positive I have never has the engine light on in this car. The dash pic also shows that all the lights and gauges (RPM, temp, and fuel) work. No, I wasn't driving when I took this picture so obviously the speedo reads 0.

Again maybe I have no idea what I am doing but this project seemed pretty damn simple and somehow I screwed it up. I wanted to check with TW guys/gals prior to contacting TireRack for a new part.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

I had the same experience last year. Bought a unit in the spring, didn't get around to installing until the fall. Gauge read 0, even the fuel gauge seemed to dither more around turns and such. Couple back and forths with HyperTec too find out Amazon had sent me a returned unit. Removed unit, Speedo started to function, and the fuel gauge needle calmed down. Not sure how/why that would be affected? I even checked continuity on all the pins. Double checked all the connections.
Now I have a unit that is passed returnable...
    I'd try calling the manufacturer.

I have a 3rd gen, so, it might be a little different but a few troubleshooting steps I’d try first is only use the tire size inches. Don’t use the p metric measurements. Also leave the gearing blank.

I know, it doesn’t make sense, but it’s how it worked on mine, I got the advice from some random dude on another forum. Turns out it solved my problems. You’re’s sounds like it’s not connected completely into the harness or something maybe. Have you asked hyper tech?

When you lose the speedometer signal, then the fuel gauge follows what the float does in the tank.

I know this because I had cut my speedometer wires from the transmission sensor, during a T56 swap. Until I had that signal hooked back up, the gauge would show empty when going up a hill, and full when braking. Lol

Makes sense. Removed the HyperTec and all is back to normal. Well, except I still don't have an accurate speedo...
Wondering if it's a matter of getting the raw process value without the speedo smarts. And once hooked back up, the gauge reports based on the Filtered Process Value?

Finally got this crap fixed. No delay on hypertechs part. Had a baby and so much other crap going on that I never fixed this until now. Finally working on the truck again. I sent it directly back to hyper tech. After eval, apparently I got a lemon. They warranted it and sent me a new one. Good to go now. Entered the 4.88 gear ratio and the 315s I’m the program and bam it worked like it should. Super happy now. Wish I did it sooner.
