I have owned my 2009 Tacoma off road TRD for 6 years. She has 207k miles on her and runs great. The steering gets stiff from time to time and I usually spray chain and cable lube down the steering shaft so it runs down the shaft onto the u-joint. It helps loosen up the steering but if I were to replace the u joint does the entire steering shaft and steering wheel have to be removed to do so?

Huh, thats weird. U Joints are internally lubricated, so spraying them on the outside shouldn't have much of an effect. In theory, anyway.

i think you can just replace the shaft between the steering rack and the wheel.

    Welcome!

Its common and worth the replacement. Just do it.

    Welcome!

I spray it and move the wheel back in forth cable n chain lib is a penetrating lube so maybe that’s why it works idk but it’s only a temporary fix. And thank you! :)
