Trained by dishonest techs as well. When they quote a repair that costs as much as a new unit it's a no brainer to the consumer.

I recently replaced my 28 year old fridge defrost timer as it was freezing up. The part cost me $10 and the replacement time was 10minutes. I cringed thinking about all the refrigerators that have ended up junked because of simple stuff like that.

I'm perfectly fine with people walking away from these commercial ZT's.

I just shake my head in wonder how easy it is to repair and sell for decent money.

My wife's 2014 Hyundai Tuscon with 84,000 miles is currently at the dealer getting a new engine under warranty. They paid for us to have a rental for the duration.

She took it in for a knock sensor update(Hyundai's response to damaged engines locking up with no warning and getting people hurt in traffic). It immediately went into limp mode. They put a new sensor in--immediate limp mode. Found 4 scored cylinder walls. Typical of their GDI engines. It's been burning oil for 20,000 miles. POS won't make it to it's first service before I'm rid of it after getting it back.

Side note, I talked to a friend who owns a dump truck the other day. I ask if he still had it, he said it's in the shop getting a new engine cause I got tired of putting 6 quarts of oil in it everyday

Probably had a Detroit 2-stroke converter(not an engine) in it. Converts fuel and oil into noise and smoke.

Those engines were funny, you stall them and they start to run backwards

When I was young I worked in a filling station, a kid would come in with a Chev Vega and buy 2 quarts of straight 30 grade oil. He put 1 quart in there at the station and would put the other in at his girlfriends house for the return trip to town.

The girlfriend lived 15 miles away! Oil dripped out of the tailpipe...

    They sound cool thought! :burnrubber:
I have a Detroit 353 stored away for a someday project. I got it before I had the forklift, that was quite a chore to get off the trailer.

New crank case cover installed. No issues. Oil pump gear meshed right up the first try.

Test ran the unit in the shop. Sounds great!

Gave it a quick Armor All wipe down.

    Note to self:

Tighten second set screw on the hydraulic pump drive pulley. Didn't want to turn the motor over with the rear bearing not supporting the rear PTO.

damn, we just got like 3”-4” of snow and haven’t seen even a plow truck let alone a grader or loader, then again, I haven’t bothered to connect the loader on my own tractor yet either….
