That >8,000 lb. winch is a waste of money.

Half of me wants to see this video that will never be produced, the other half is sad for bullying this dude during a rough time, the third half thinks he deserves it

Thank Goodness those days for me were long before the internet in my case.

Mom pretty much shot them down before I made a complete fool of myself .

@TomHGZ what do you think about Hi-Lift jacket winching or Mechanical Advantage winching (snatch blocks and ropes powered by a person)?

Michigan guy here, running a ComeUp Winch for the last 3 years and a SmittyBilt before that. You need to use them…not unlike a generator in the garage. You can’t let them sit idle for a year+ and expect them to work flawlessly. I have never had an issue, just run the line out and spool back on occasionally if regular actual use has been down.

Well, based on my hourly rate and the time I just spent reading this entire thread, I earned enough money to buy a proper >8000lb winch and don't need to save money on inferior equipment. @TomHGZ made a valuable contribution here.

He keeps promising the next installment but, like any nerd that stumbled into fame, he got too swept up into the new lifestyle of cheap parties and easy women. He'll keep promising, but deep down we all know he doesnt give a shit about the vehicle that got him there.

Don't worry, HBO is on it now. It's guaranteed to make us invest at the beginning, but will piss everyone off at the conclusion.

well we are well into year two of waiting for an example of this technique, hell i'll take photos at this point. That being said, how long was the wait for the last rr martin book? 9 years or something? we still got a ways to go if that's going to happen here as well

The last two years have gotten me, for starters, a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, a drawn-out divorce, a new “home” in the back of my truck, and a deer collision with said truck. For a variety of reasons, you won’t be getting your video. Sorry not sorry, but I will explain a little further:

I posted that for the average Tacoma driver, an 8K winch is a waste of money. I am no longer the average driver. I live in my truck, and it weighs 6,000 pounds with a camper on top and my possessions in it.

After hitting the deer, I discovered it was cheaper for me to mount an All-pro knock-off bumper from eBay, than to replace the damaged parts with OEM (including painting to color-match). The new bumper weighs >110lbs. My original argument for weight savings in the front became irrelevant to my situation.

While I was at it, I decided to protect my new home from other drivers by adding a stronger rear bumper (BAMF) and sliders. Weight be damned, home defense was my new priority — my truck is where I sleep at night.

With the current weight of my truck, I would obviously not choose an ATV winch (if I ever get around to buying a winch now), as I had done in the past with a lightly-built first gen. I would also not use a removable winch tray, because I no longer have room in the bed for it with everything else.

Sometimes life changes in ways you don’t anticipate.

    That is all.

    The video is here!

Ok, it's not from @TomHGZ (hope the last year has been better for you than the one before my dude) and yes, that is a 12,000 lb winch on the truck in the demonstration, but Casey LaDelle does it for the people!
