Official Crawlbox BS thread!

TG single tcase crossmember was pretty nice, flat and heavy duty. The dual crossmember definitley leaves alot to be desired. When it warms up I have a few plans to cut it up.

 

My drivelines are in and it’s official everything works! I’m officially dual cased!

Couple tips:

• Don’t couple it with another project(like sound deadening the cab)
• Don’t do it on a slanted driveway
• Either make a jig for a floor jack or use a trans jack. I used a trans jack and it was very helpful
• Take breaks (i don’t know how to do this lol)

 

Are there any good fitting shifter boots for the first gen push button knob?? The generic one I order didn’t fit .

I’ve been wanting to do the sound deadening for a long time, and it makes perfect sense to do it with all of the shifter work.

 

Get that on the truck!

 

Can anyone confirm if the upper/larger shift fork slider is in upside down or correct? I reassembled the whole thing and it shifts fine and seems ok but I saw one pic online where it looked like it was in the opposite of mine. Thanks

 

Okay, so I was looking through this thread and seen a picture of the couple full of grease, I didn’t do this. This is a must? @betterbuckleup says yes, but just want to get more opinions before I pull them off just to grease that. Lol

 

I would agree, especially running a single row bearing (TG). You have a better chance of fretting the splines without running anything.
While any grease or even antiseize is better than nothing, from the pic looks like Lucas Oil RED n Tacky that has additivies for high pressure.

What you really want for this application is a high Moly content paste

looks like my pic haha, yes def grease that coupling with something as Greg suggested. I used mobile 1.

 

I use xhp-322 on spline applications such as these nowadays. Seems to work better than mobile 1 and I bought a cause to use on all my kubota pins as it’s better for high pressure applications.

welp looks like I’ll be pulling it back out then, won’t be able to happen for a few weeks. Wish it was documented somewhere better that it should be done. Trail gear instructions just say install coupler. So much work, to just add some grease and slap it all back together. I did order that paste to use.

 

Stuff is worth the $20-30. If nothing is used, you'll end up with this. Granted the total spline will help combat it, but not get rid of it. PIA to redo for sure, but that time spent will help in the long run of it. May look like rust, but is actually called fretting caused by intense force rocking back and forth.

Makes me wonder how much the antiseize I used is actually doing and if the gear oil just washes it out...

 

I think there were other issues going on with that than just grease. I didn’t put grease on for the first 2 years mine was installed but did from them on. Didn’t have any issues during that 2 years.

 

From what I've researched and personally seen, its been back and forth and not concrete that gear oil is making it up into that coupler where the fretting is occurring. Changing the fluid and keeping an eye out for RED tint will help with peace of mind.

While antiseize has some properties better than normal every day tube grease, I always recommend the small Honda M77 Moly Paste just due to the amount of Moly it contains when compared to other items out there. One small tube is all you'll ever need.

Pretty much engineered for what these Inputs and Couplers are seeing from the crawlbox.

 

Maybe I am bit confused, is the issue happening between the trans/crawl box or CB/Tcase or I guess both?
