Hey guys, I’m looking to order a harness for my 05 taco and want to make sure I get the right one. I’m under the impression I need the conventional / power switched harness.
I currently have a set of hid projectors and harness installed. When I tested my system this was the reading I got.

For bulbs? Headlight Services has them in stock domestically.

You’re conventionally switched. The 0.1v is just noise. You’re looking for 0v or 12v.

Broke down and ordered 4 of the Osram bulbs on Ebay. $50 for the 4 of them shipped from the UK. Should be here in about 2 weeks.

I held off because they said they weren't shipping to the US right now. Noticed Crash's mention that they are on the same website as the harness, so got them ordered from Headlight Services and can't wait to see better soon!

Awesome post and thanks for the research, explanations, and information @crashnburn80

Be sure to post your thoughts once you get them installed! Yes, Headlight Services started importing the bulbs to offer one stop shopping, and is one of the very few places that actually have them in stock domestically right now.

2014 DCSB Sport, V6. Can someone confirm the Headlight Services harness is the correct application for me?

Just pulled my DRL, 4157 NAK
Looks like I have headlight bulbs for DRL making the Headlight Services harness a no go...

Or, I have the wrong DRL installed, they do work.

Those look like the right DRL’s. I change mine when the paint starts burnin’ off & just did it.

Headlight bulbs for the DRL is referring to the low beam bulb. AKA, you can not turn your headlight low beams off. Indicator bulbs as the DRL are compatible with the harness.

The paint burns off on 4157A bulbs, it does not on 4157NA bulbs. A means an amber paint/coating was applied to the bulb to make it amber. NA means the glass is naturally amber, aka it won't peal/burn off/lose its color over time, they also have a slightly richer amber color. I'd definitely recommend an NA bulb.

I just did this last night! Got everything from Headlight Services within a few days of ordering. Headlights are definitely brighter and it took next to no time. I’m kind of thinking about switching to Philips RacingVision +200 to get the color temp a little closer to my white Diode Dynamic SS3 fogs though.

I've been running the Racing Visions for about three weeks. They do make a difference over OEM. I need a little more light so I did order the harness and bulbs.

I wouldn’t advise it. The Philips will be slightly whiter than what you have now, but comparing to LED 6000k the relative difference will be virtually unnoticeable as the color temp difference will still be huge. Instead I’d recommend changing the fogs to selective yellow, which is far more advantageous for poor weather conditions, blends fantastic with the halogens where the warmer colors are close to you rather than the cooler ones. I realize that stings to have to swap the fogs, but it is the proper solution. 6000k fogs are distracting with halogen headlights, and halogen headlights won’t get anywhere near 6000k in temp.

I highly recommend Sylvania Silverstar 3357A/3457A "High Wattage" bulbs. I normally do not recommend any Silverstar bulbs since the headlight bulbs suck. But these are on a different level! I have had these in multiple vehicles and have had one pair go for up to 10 yrs before selling the car, never had a failure in-fact. I've had them in my Tacoma (front and rear) for about 3 years with no signs of the coating degrading. They are very bright and have a nice rich amber output, kinda cool look when they are off too if you care about that. They are very noticeable with the running lights on (mine are always on) and when you signal you can see the light from your review mirror and off of signs.

As much as I love VLED Tritons, I cannot justify spending $400+ to install them in the front and rear on my Tacoma when the Sylvania's are $25 a pair and fill the reflector properly. I'm not saying the Triton's don't fill the reflector properly, because they are bar none the best ones from an optical stand point and they are likely the brightest on the market. But again, is it worth the extra $350?? I'm not so sure. I'd certainly like to do a side by side comparison with another Tacoma using the Tritons. My buddy has the V6 Extreme's in his Outback and DAMN those are wicked!! If you don't notice when he signals, you are surely blind and shouldn't be on the road!!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AME5GI?ie=UTF8

Contrary to many that retrofit headlights that usually go LED everything. It just simply isn't needed here as you can see below. Personally I do not like LED bulbs with the obvious forward facing LED's. I like an OEM+ look and IMO LED bulbs with forward facing LED's look cheap like they don't belong. That's why the VLED's Tritons and the GTR I-LED are the best current option, sans pricing. No offense to anyone that has LED's with forward facing LED's, just my own opinion.

    IMG_1033.jpg

This is the DRL in the day time and in the rear what they look like when they are off.

Good advice. The price tag on the tritons was the least awesome part. I went pure amber in the back and switchback for front corner so I could go DRL there. Really wanted low power and white on the DRL part.

I don’t think I dropped $400 though. Switchbacks were close to 2 but I think the v6 triton non extreme in amber is 60 each? I’ll go look.

ETA: I see $140 for the kit which I assume is 2? I just bought bare bulbs since I didn’t want to use any bulb adapters.
