You didn't ask me, but yes I'm going to be doing that. My normal operating trans temp is 195 right now so I'm gonna install an aux cooler and flush the AT fluid even though I'm only at 25k. I'd rather fix it now than wait for something bad to happen due to cooked trans fluid

Do you know if it ships as a kit or if you'll have to obtain your own fitting and piping to make it work?

You'll need one 3/8 to 5/16 barb and mounting bracket. Hayden sells a mounting kit too that's about $15. I have scrap pieces of sheet metal I can use so I didn't bother. Comes with 5/16 hose and clamps.or you can buy 3/8 hose and 3/8 to 3/8 barb fitting.

There are a few guys on Tacoma World who run these , but for 300 bucks and extra money you have to spend on fluid to fill it at every transmission service , I think you could spend better money on a good transmission cooler or skid plates .
Guys purchase these when they crunch the transmission pan . The factory toyota pan runs about the same price which would make this a nice upgrade due to its aluminum construction which may save a guy from a repeat crunch .
Extra capacity ? transmissions are cooled by the cooling system . Is the pan baffled for climbing extreme inclines ?
The theory of running a truck up steep inclines is that the transmission pump loses suction to the fluid in the oil pan . This is not the case with the A750E transmission as long as its filled properly , but is an extreme issue with Fords . Engineers designing the transmission pan think the world is flat and dont provide enough sump when going up steep hills . See lots of this in the transmission trade .
Extra cooling from the fins on the transmission pan ? Transmissions are cooled by the cooling system and external transmission cooler . You would have to be moving at highway speeds to see any noticeable difference from the aftermarket fins on the bottom of this pan . You see a lot of these deep transmission pans on cars that run the 1/4 mile.
While running 4x4 at slow speeds , the fins on this pan wont do any extra cooling .

Plus only magnet is the drain plug, stock magnets wouldn't stick to the pan. Thank you for the input.

I have this setup.. It was definitely needed for heavy/extreme duty (off road/larger tires) and is probably why I haven't (knock on wood) had any driveline issues even with all the off-roading.

I have always wondered why there is an upper and lower bung on both sides... I presume this is just to give mounting and plumbing options and as long as you use an upper on one side and a lower on the other you are good? I'd love to hear if that is a good assumption.

Anyone know where I can get a Tru-Cool LPD4454 transmission cooler? They are currently unavailble on Amazon.

Hayden 697 is roughly the same size and also has a thermal bypass. $41 + tax and shipping from RockAuto.

Thanks! A thermal bypass is needed and that price is pretty great. I’ll look into it.

Hayden makes some with the bypass valve now. They’re pretty cheap on Rock Auto. I’ve actually just come inside from getting one installed. Got cold & dark so I’m without a bumper and grille until tomorrow afternoon though. Gotta show off this fresh cooler!
