I don’t think the OP wants to show off his dongle…I believe the console USB port is only for power. Not meant for data connection. Unless the 2022 has changed?

 

Got my windows tinted and installed my 4WP rock sliders. Took a bit of effort to get done without help but they turned out great!

 

I finished replacing the rear shocks

 

Just thread protectors I picked up at the local hardware store.

 

If people do not want the Air 2 Play dongle hanging in the center console there is an extension for it. I used the extension and mounted it inside the glove box. It requires you to move the factory plug behind the console, plug in the extension, route the extension to the glove box and cut a small square in the inner glove box wall for mounting the USB port. Took about 20 mins and looks way cleaner than a floppy dongle. I should also include that since I have a 2017 the Air 2 Play will not work for me. No real issue for me as I have several USB ports for power and a spot for a new switch. I was so excited to get the air 2 play to work. Well, lesson learned, it's sitting on my desk till I figure out what I want to do with it.

At least on my 2021, the console usb is power only, I ordered a couple of different extension wires until I found the one that would plug into my harness behind the dash and relocated the media port to the center console and then turned my old media port into a charging port.

 

Would you be able to link the parts used? I'm waiting for an AAwireless module to come in. When it does I'll probably do the same.

 

I tinker with this kind of stuff on my cars and motorcycles so much that I tend to forget what exactly I did on a certain project, so unfortunately I don’t remember every part used, but I did read on another thread about someone else doing something similar and documenting it on the forum.

You are welcome! Be careful though, Toyota decided to change the shape of the little connector behind the media port and some cables offered don’t work on the newer trucks.

 

its a 3" vertex suspension lift with adjustable reservoirs front and back (I went budget this time around). 285/70R17 Nitto ridge grapplers (wish I would have done 285/75 but next time I guess). the wheels are Helo HE878 -12 offset. got them as a package deal form wheelhero.com

 

I have soldering iron and I'm not afraid to use it.

 

! I use mine so much that it’s wore out and I need to replace it, but I felt bad cutting and splicing wires on a car with less that 1k miles at the time.

Eh, you can always blame it on Toyota making stupid decisions that need to be fixed. That's what I've been doing.

 

The console USB in my 2019 ain't worth a shit for nothing. I plugged my rear dash cam into it and half the time it would not come on when I turned the ignition on. Plugged it into the dash USB port and it works flawlessly.

 

Might just be a long cable issue cutting into the voltage. You might try running one of these to the back of the cabin and plug the rear cam into it there.

Great idea. I could stand a couple of permanent USB ports in the back behind the seats.

 

What do you have controlling them? Added an extra fuse and switch?
