Hey guys, Im looking for a shop to possibly get an r&r done on my 05 tacoma 2TR-fe.
    Somewhere between kelowna and calgary.

I just bought the truck at 300km and its burning a bit of oil (.5L in 1500km) and appears to be burning coolant as well (white coolant smelling smoke on start-up)

I had a local shop quote a head gasket alone at over $4000. That seems a bit steep to me. Just wondering if anyone has experience with a good (possibly toyota oriented) shop that could properly diagnose and rebuild if its necessary, for a more reasonable price. Thanks!

Sold my '07 a few months ago with a blown motor. Buyer said they couldn't find a reasonable used engine for replacement and ended up buying a new long block for somewhere around $7,500cdn then did the R&R themselves.

Wow, that's nuts. I'm sure he wishes he bought a new truck instead. And now I'm wishing I was more thorough with my inspection when I bought the truck..

I have been looking for a cheap 2wd from a collision to pull the motor from but they just don't seem to exist

I checked with a local shop before I sold it. They estimated +/-$10,000 for a used motor and R&R, but they said they couldn't find a used motor they would trust to put in it.
