generic TPMS vs OEM

Les Schwab says they have generic programmable TPMS but they are not as reliable as OEM. The cost difference is $90 less installed (total) for the generics. Should I go for OEM or does it not matter?

 

How long do you plan on keeping the truck?

 

I have put TPMS sensors bought from Amazon in 3 vehicles. Paid $80 for a set of 4. Two are still in the driveway, the 3rd I no longer own. But the I've never had a single issue. These are not generic, but specific to each vehicle and within a range of years. There was no charge when Discount Tire installed 2 of the sets when I had new tires mounted. It cost me $10/wheel on the other vehicle to get them installed.

I see they have gone up $8. But this is what is what I'm using in my Tacoma.

I bought mine directly from Denso. $35 each. I am assuming that the truck had the original ones when I bought it, so if these new ones last another 10 years, I'll be happy. America's Tire installed and linked them to the vehicle for free when I had new tires put on.

 

I tried a tire shop the other day and they couldn't get the Amazon Denso monitors programmed to the truck. They installed one of their own on the dead wheel, but now that one isn't responding when I look at my tpms display. I had another one die while they had it. So now I have 2 dead ones in the rears. I don't understand what the problem is. And this shop is used by forum members here. So we'll see. They get one more shot at this.

 

I went with the OEM ones. $90 over hopefully 10 years was an easy call.
