Weather Molding vs Rails

My 2008 just got a little makeup done at MAACO.




The weather moldings on the roof are toast.

It looks like it'll be $200 for new ones. I'm debating picking up the OEM rails ($280) instead... or maybe even the Amazon knockoffs.

Any thoughts?

 

Are you talking about the ones on top of the truck?
If so, it doesn’t matter. I’d probably still use some adhesive under them all the way back.

When Safelite did my windshield, I had the guy run a bead down the front of mine where it was coming loose. So far it hasn’t moved. I just hope I never have to remove it. That windshield adhesive is some good stuff.

 

Yeah on the roof. They are literally toast, though. Dissentigrating.

 

I’m at the point with my truck, I might consider aftermarket.
Because my truck isn’t perfect by any means. It’s 15 years old.
The problem is more with IF the aftermarket ones will fit.
If they fit, I’d run them.
If they don’t fit correctly, it’s wasted time and money shipping them back.

I guess it comes down to price vs time/money.
How “cheap” are the Amazon ones?

 

As far as the rails go, I can get OEM delivered for $280, or these from Amazon:

The cheapest I can find for the OEM weathing drip molding will be $198, as each side has two parts and a few clips.

 

Oh, I thought you were talking about the rubber moldings?
The actual roof rack/rails. I don’t know much about.
I have an access cab. So it requires drill holes and adding riv-nuts.
And I don’t want to drill any holes.

Since you have a DC, you should be fine.
Some racks have been known to howl at freeway speeds.
So I’d definitely check reviews first.

 

Leaking is still the concern, even though the factory threaded holes are there.

I'm going to try the ones from autodayplus on ebay. Sold 1000's of them, with almost perfect feedback. Will report back after they get installed.

 

Beware of the aftermarket ones . They usually have fitment issues near the windshield. Leaving 1/4 gaps . I had a set and returned it . Got OEM from the dealership for $200 . Fits perfectly

 

Looks nice. $200 for OEM is a great price. How long ago was that?

I've found $280 around me. I hear the OEM hardware is pretty bad.

My ebay knockoff will get delivered tomorrow. If it's that bad I'll bite the bullet for the OEM. thanks!

 

The eBay rails went on OK, after I realized that you need to bend the front bracket slightly until it fits perfectly.

Not bad for a $130, but if you don't want to spend several hours doing this get the OEM ones

I do have about a quarter inch gap on the left rail by the front windshield. I did just about everything I could do to figure it out with little success. The right one fit perfectly.
