it had nothing to do with the hole. The RIPP pack is much larger then stock and when put into position and you line up the holes the top of the pack rubbed on the valve cover and would not let the coil pack sit flush. the pack itself is much larger then the stock one. The post linked before was my truck: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ricks-and-mods.518932/page-1643#post-24641456

Even forcing it was just not there. Sure it would have worked but it should fit better.

If i look at your pictures, and envision the mounting hole closer to the centerline of the pack versus offset, (more like the OEM) then rubbing on the valve cover would appear to not be an issue.
EDIT i'll take this back, in that the RIPP packs for the 2.7L do show the mounting hole offset the same as shown in your pictures. I was wrong, the RIPP coil packs for the 2.7L are the same as the RIPP 4.0L model.

Yah In the current form they hit the valve cover which appears to not be an issue with the 2.7. But agree if the mounting point was moved over we would be in business.

This regards the 4Runner/FJ version RIPP coils. The ones I currently run right now. Heres the story with them:

The bolt mounting holes allow the coil to sit on the valve cover in an incorrect orientation in comparison to the OE one. Because of this it requires messing with the wiring harness particularly on Cyl. 2 which was beneath the supercharger or intake manifold.

The secondary issue is the coil boots are too large. This is alleviated by making precise clean cuts with a razor blade of the boots to allow for proper fitment.

One more size effect issue is that because the coils are so large, the OE bolts are subsequently a hair short and causes some issues when tightening them down since the coils sit a hair high despite the fact whether you cut the boots down or not. They just have a bit of upwards excessive pressure making for a semi uncomfortable to install and thread in those bolts properly. Particularly cyl #6.

Multi issue problem that is easily remedied, but you better damn be sure of what you are doing before you get into it otherwise you just trashed a set of $300 coils.

Indeed. Hence why many opted for the Tacoma version which was a bust. =( Curious about the Sultan of Spark coils and how they compare to RIPP packs.

Spark coils? Never heard of them.

For the RIPPs, there are just a lot of risks that you need to take if you want to run them. I think any mod you want to do is worth the risk, but at the end of the day that's always your call on what you decide to do (I mean in general, not just you) lol.

Their site has tacoma results. 10-15hp for a 2gen, 20-30 for 3gen. iirc.
But again, I'd trust tw member results more than the youtube tester's results or their own.

I know, but they have no video of a 2nd gen 4.0L tacoma on the dyno. So I wanted to know how they got 10-15hp numbers. They gave me a video of a 4runner but they are dual vvti and are 270hp vs tacomas 236.

ah, I gotcha. They're more than welcome to put mine of the dyno. I'm only 25 mins from them. I'll buy them if they fit well and the results hold true

They emailed me and confirmed they have not dyno'd a 2nd gen tacoma with 4.0L. So take those 10-15hp gains for what it is but they have no evidence it actually will make that much more.

I'll reach out and see if they want to put it on the dyno.
I sent them a message. We'll see what they say.

Anyone running these on the 3rd gen and have positive things to say? My spark plugs are about to be due so I'm thinking of throwing these on while I do them
