I can confirm that the 2021 fob is the same as the picture you uploaded except where yours says 1/10 mine says 4/10. I want to dot my i's and cross my t's before I bite the bullet and buy all the stuff. Does anyone know where I can find this ecu module in my truck and if checking it's serial number is an ordeal or not? TIA

I got through 29 pages of this and I have to ask about techstream. Is there a particular version I should get? there seems to be many options on Amazon ranging from $50-105. I have a new windows laptop and even found a usb disc drive to use! lol (can't believe I'm saying that). Just wasn't sure if there was a particular "dongle" I should get. Thanks!!

oohh nice tdlr i don't want to read through the entire thread but I do have a Lexus keycard unused & unprogramed from my LX570. since I need a spare key anyways I should really look into finding a local Denver area locksmith who can program it onto my 2020 Taco. If it works sweet one less thing to carry around with Colorado's new digital drivers license app I don't even carry around my wallet anymore...

What’s the back of the card look like with the part numbers? Might be a different coding than the Tacomas.

I’m going to need to look back into this after a few years.
Just bought a 2022 Highlander for my wife, but I probably drive “her car” more than she does so now I guess I’ll need another Credit Card Key.

Are you just doing this at a dealership or is this guy specialized? And I'd be interested in how much they charged you if you're successful.

The emergency key will also work for the tailgate I'm assuming?

You get it cut to match your car key so yes but I'd assume it pairs well with the $30 electric tailgate mod. I just did mine now I NEED the key card.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/10-diy-power-lock-tailgate.424052/
This tutorial is a tad vague so I'll add some tips I gathered from my experience here.
    I ordered these from Amazon:
    Jameco Reliapro PDL-50 Motor Driven Actuator, Push/Pull, 12VDC, 3.3 AMPS,40 Watt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRDHWGY?_encoding=UTF8
    InstallGear 12 Gauge AWG 30ft... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LCST81G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The wire was probably way overboard but I liked the thickness of the insulation since most of it is in the undercarriage and I didn't put any additional protection on it.
Other stuff you'll need are a few connectors to join your wires (I used spades) and I'd recommend a few taps for the two wires you'll be jumping off your B pillar. Some electrical tape, heat shrink, nuts and bolts to fix the actuator to the tailgate. Oh and zip ties.

I don't want to be too long winded on this thread so only other thing I'll add that isn't mentioned in the linked thread is if those 2 wires you're working with ever bridge it will blow the power door fuse (20A I believe) so I recommend disconnecting the battery for the install.

Feel free to PM me for more detail or with any questions. I think I have some pics of the install if you want those too

Had the technician attempt to program; it's a used remote and he couldn't manage to trick the car into accepting it. I'm gonna be sending it out to get re-virginized before trying again. It looked promising as the vehicle was recognizing a key, just was stating it was already programmed to another vehicle.

If its not a virgin key, truck wont accept it without doing a full security ecu reset (with the special vin codes, wait 15 minutes of praying and all). Hopefully you have better luck once its virginized.

(I went the route of doing the security ecu reset when I made a second Lexus key with a used key and it all worked correctly, but I would probably try the key virginization next time I tried it)
