    i just drove an 05 x-runner :D
the HP difference from the 05 to the 06 is quite noticable ... now i wish i had an 05 :|

hints: don't really have any...personally, i was looking for low miles, and time left on the factory warranty...but honestly, with toyotas, i don't think you really need to worry about the warranty

good deal: hmmm, thats a hard one. what are you willing to pay? subtract $500 from that number, and thats a good deal ;)

well I have driven both the 05 and I own the 06 but there really isn't a difference in hp. toyota just figured out the accual number in 06 and its around 210rwhp stock

The engines in the 05-08 are all the same. there is no actual power loss, they just use a different system to rate the power so the numbers change but the engine didnt

If your buying a used XR make sure the tranny shifts smooth, other than that just check all the normal stuff you would check when buying a used vehicle. Like NDcouch said there is no difference in HP in the 05s to the 08s.
