I have the same little unit and love it! It deflates enough for my pillows and down blanket to stay on top when closed.

How did you mount the panels to the top?

Has anyone placed their diesel heater tank outside the bed, ie: under the hood or between behind the rear fender well?

Added the new nightstand/floor panels and hit the latches with T-9. The tent closes much easier now.

I picked up #178 a few weeks ago and have kept myself busy with the buildout. The first thing I put in the back was a diesel heater, self contained in a Plano box. I removed the cubby and used the same bolts to seal the box against the bed. Simple L-channel bracket in the wheel well holds the exhaust securely. The whole thing comes out with 4 fasteners. IMG_0262[1].jpg PIMY7709[1].jpg

The M6 inserts came in handing bolting a carpeted piece of 3/4" ply in the rear where I mounted my propane and water. I also mounted a water pump in the back that feeds a propane shower. I'm not sure if I'm going to find a place to mount the heater or just stash it in a box for trips where I'll need it.

I also VBMed a soft amber light strip around 3 sides and put in 3 white lights that are on a dimmer. The side whites are about 300lm, but the one mounted on door could keep ships from crashing into the rocks on a foggy day. Fortunately, they all have switches on them so I can turn off the door light when I'm buttoned up inside.

I've got a fuse block stashed in the passenger side bed cubby, but the battery is a 60aH LiFePo special I put together myself behind the passenger seat. I wanted to keep as much out of the bed as possible for loading bikes and other goodies.
    IMG_0269[1].jpg

On the same theme of keeping the bed empty, I opted to mount a Dometic 55IM behind the drivers seat. The OEM seat hinge and backseat mounts worked out perfect. A 1" spacer on the hinges got me to dead level. If I pull out the fridge, the mount board pivots up so I can get to the amp mounted under it. I didn't need to cut or remove any of the plastic behind the backrest, which was fortunate since I already had a powered sub mounted back there. I'm 5'10" and can still push the seat back about 2" from where I like to drive.

I can't wait to get this thing out for it's maiden voyage.

For you Gen II folks, there is a way to mount the X1 without using the starboard spacer. I pulled my OEM T-channel from the sides and used the same threaded inserts to bold L-channel. That dropped the camper down low enough for the alignment tabs to engage on the sides and front. Full disclosure, I did need to use spacers, but they were to center the camper and not raise it. I used Voodoo bedrail caps, so I also needed to VBM a piece of aluminum L-channel just behind the cab window to create a nice level surface for the gasket to seal all the way around the bed. So far, she hasn't leaked a dropped shifted a hair.

I spent hours trying to figure out how to get it under the fender. You'd have to make some elaborate brackets and it would still be very tight. I don't like the idea of having it exposed to the elements and being very difficult to access if you need to trouble shoot. I can't image getting to the fuel filter without pulling the whole thing out. In the end, I opted to build it into a box and just venting the exhaust down through an existing hole for the drive side cubby.

I really like the portability of the heater idea so it can be moved out of the bed during the warm months.

I think we are going to try and put the fuel tank in the wheel well and mount the heater to the cubby box space inside the bed, well make a mount.

Rather than cutting holes in the cubby box, I'd suggest you completely remove it and replace with a 1/8" piece of steel or aluminum plate. The heater will mount directly onto it and seal the gaping hole in the side of your bed. Putting the tank in the wheel well is doable, but please be careful of leaks dripping onto the hot exhaust. Consider using one of those fuel stand pipe lines that pulls from the top of the tank rather than the bottom. You'd be less vulnerable to random rocks flying around down in the wheel well. Another thing to consider is that once you connect the exhaust, it's a pain to snake down into the wheel well. That pipe is not as flexible as it looks. Don't get too carried away attaching everything to a single plate. You can use the D ring or bed bolt to attach a separate bracket to mount the fuel pump and filter.

Picked up #184 last week, installed lights and a propex heater. Visited friends in Bend, SLC, Moab and Portland along the way. Slept warm and dry on the way to ski 3 days at Utah resorts. Planned on hitting Aspen Highlands on the last two days of the drive but Moab was just too close to home. 20220224_064754.jpg 20220223_111800.jpg 20220227_170238.jpg 20220227_170303.jpg

Awesome! Thanks, this is the direction I was thinking as well. Good call with the fuel stand pipe. I'll post pics as I go :)

Was trying to come up with a new idea for built in shelving and found a great inexpensive solution. Used closet tracks and racking from lowes with a 12in shelf turned upside down. Under $30 in parts and it is sturdier than I would have hoped for.

That is brilliant. I’m definitely going to install the same thing. Thanks for posting the idea.

    Nice work!

Looks like it has more capacity than the shelf I built. If I recall mine was a 1x6 for the base and a 1x3 for the front edge. I mounted it using L-brackets at the back and a turnbuckle at the front on each side. Very solid. With the front edge I can stuff things up there and they stay put. Not a ton of capacity though. On the flipside it is out of the way when the floor is pushed forward.

Tried to recycle the old floor panels and decided to make a pop-up table. The old cut corner is perfect to help clear the wheel well

I used mine with a lagun table mount - works great and I keep it in place paired with one of the molle end panels for an easy spot to store it!
