Starting this thread to document my 4runner build, get flamed into making the right decisions the first time (already screwed some of this up I'm sure) and remember what all the parts are when i break them. I've got 2 and 4 year olds, so progress is going to be slow.

    General plan:

    Front Axle
    • FJ80 - Junkyard
    • Hellfire Knuckles/Arms - RuffStuff
    • 4WU 3 link kit, links/rod ends, radflo 2.0x14" coilovers and 2" bumps

    • Rebuild kit w/ koyo wheel bearings - Cruiser outfitters
    • Locking hubs (FHT-002) - Cruiser outfitters
    • Powerstop rotors/pads (K1154-36) - Amazon
    Rear Axle
    • Trail Gear 4" leaf springs
    • 2007 4runner axle
    • Liquid iron slider boxes
    • 14" bilstein 7100 short bodies
    • Rear diff (5.29's+Zip locker; gears and yoke kit-YG TV6-529K, rebuild kit-YK TV6-B-SPC, zip locker-YZLTV6-30)
    Steering
    • IFS box - junkyard, also picked up a drilled/tapped box
    • 3/4" less drop pitman arm - Sky Mfg
    • $330 - PSC 1.5"x6" ram w/ rod ends/bolts/tabs (https://www.pscmotorsports.com/catalog/product/view/id/21285/s/psc-sc2206k-ss/category/1947/)
    • $400 - Trail gear 1650 psi PS pump w/ pulley (https://trail-gear.com/steering/ste...wer-steering-pump-with-serpentine-pulley.html)
    • $70 - Trail gear PS pump bracket (https://trail-gear.com/steering/ste...pump-brackets/ps-pump-bracket-kit-tacoma.html)
    • Belt - 4 groove pulley, Bando 4PK1045

If I were you, I would make sure I have the parts before you start cutting. Due to inflation and parts availability, some items may take 6+ months.

Not a bad idea for parts, you biggest wait will be the 4wu kit, NWF box, but unless you have some Hellfires or a lead on some good luck. Last I heard someone mention ruffstuff wasn't making any or was put on a waiting list.

Rest of the parts look good.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have much of the big stuff already (4WU kit, radflo stuff, hellfires, wheels/tires), which did take a loooong time to come in. NWF box states an 8 week lead time and i'll likely be ordering within the next couple of weeks.

Good deal, the fact you have that stuff puts you wayy ahead of the game. 63s in the rear are the way to go, cheap, proven and easy todo. Can attest to the 4wu kit my buddy has the same for his pickup.

Good to hear, i've heard mixed reviews on 4wu lately but understand I'll have to notch/clearance my frame as needed to get a lower ride height...cycle, clearance, repeat. Any opinion on using slider boxes vs. normal shackles? Seems like an easy way to get the ride height down vs. frenching leaf eye/shackle mounts, but they don't appear very common.

Kinda looks like it, but there’s just that thick a layer of grease/dirt on it. Cleaned up well.

Maybe common knowledge, but a relief cut in old races makes a perfect driver for new races. All new wheel and trunnion bearings/races.2589D353-7382-4CFD-9582-663F6B3D86EA.jpg3B72FF9D-639A-41D3-BBC0-68CDBC37E220.jpg

These locking hubs accommodate the snap ring location of the shorter fj80 birf, and will be compatible with the rcv hub gear/birfs. Buying them new is almost as much as junkyard solid axle aisin hubs these days. I’ve never been able to break a stock fj80 birf but wanted future options just in case.
