I'll be heading to Red River Gorge with a Jeep buddy and our wives in a couple of weeks for my birthday and we'll be exploring parts of the DBBB. Neither one of us are interested in anything too wild, but are up for a bit of an off-road adventure. I have a 3" lift with 33s and his Jeep has 33s also.

I've driven parts of the trail before but am definitely not confident in navigating my way around without doing a bit of research and mapping first. It would be fun to join up with some other Tacomas and hopefully find a leader that has explored the area more than us.

Our plan is to be in the RRG area by lunchtime Friday and we're staying in an AirBNB Friday and Saturday nights. Wheeling date/time can be flexible...Friday afternoon, anytime Saturday or Sunday morning. Who would be interested in joining and which day is preferred?

Been watching this unfold on the tri-state forum. Sounds like a good time, unfortunately my truck is not yet ready for such an excursion. Getting my wheels in this week and tires will be soon to follow.

If you all decide to do this again in the summer please let me know. My kiddo will be with his fam in CT, which means the wife and I get some time to do what we want. I'm right outside of Louisville, so it would be a quick drive over to the gorge.

Looking like our Offroad Day in RRG will be SATURDAY, March 26th. I'm going to spend some time this weekend mapping out some of the easy to intermediate rides on the DBBB. I'll probably stay away from anything HARD or EXPERT but if we DO get a group together, anyone is welcome to lead a smaller group down those trails for anyone wanting something more difficult. Stay tuned...

Alright, I think I have a pretty decent "easy to moderate" route lined up. I generally followed the trail descriptions from https://www.ridethedbbb.org/post/introducing-virtual-hiking-trails-all-over-the-world to plan this route. Recent rainfall will play a large role in just how difficult these trails are, but I'm hoping that they are all passable with the 33" tires and 2-3" of lift that me and my jeep buddy have. I've got a hi-lift jack and buddy has a winch in case things get hairy, but I'm not "planning" to use them!

I've mapped out the route in Google maps and had to divide in 2 parts since there is a section at the bottom of Big Andy Rd. that isn't a "road" in Google Maps. That's the section of Lower Devil Creek Rd. that connects Big Andy Rd. to Sandy Ridge Rd. Each part of my route is expected to take 1.5-2hrs (at least according to Google), and I plan to take a lunch break 30 mins into the 2nd part at Sky Bridge Station (one of our favorite places to grab a beer and burger)! Following lunch, we'll probably take a more leisure pace and make a few stops to hike along the way. If we get a group going, anyone is welcome to hike with us or separate and continue offroading.

I'm not very proficient in map sharing, so hopefully these routes show up!
PART ONE starts at the intersection of Fixer Leeco Rd. and State Hwy 1036 and ends where Big Andy Rd. dead-ends at Lower Devil Creek.

PART TWO starts at the North Fork Kentucky River and Sandy Ridge Rd and ends at Punkin Hollow Rd.

I would guess we may start around 10am on Saturday, March 26th but that time is somewhat flexible. Full disclaimer: I've not done this route before, so I'm really not sure what to expect. I'm offroading in my daily, so I will turnaround if sections look too sketchy. If anyone has more experience with these routes than I do (which should be most of the KY group), feel free to chime in with comments about trip conditions and trouble-spots.

I won't be able to make it, between gas prices and competing priorities it doesn't fit.

Looks like fun, hope you and the other enjoy!
