Join the club. Mine's still not fixed. The dealer wants my truck for a whole day to consult with Toyota Engineers to determine the issue. I showed them the Meso picture and offered the explanation known but my service writer seems a little slow.

@Tony77 Hey, did your issue go through dealer diagnosis to track down the problem or did you just buy that console and threw it in? Dealer parts dept quoted me full retail at well over $500 but your route was just over $300 as you said. I'm trying to decide which avenue is more painless. I think buying the console is but I still have to go back because their "fixing" of my TPMS issue is no longer fixed. It lasted a day. o_O I don't have a lot of trust in this shop.

I just bought the overhead console and installed. It seemed to me that Meso had a real handle on what happened, that the issue was in the overhead console with the shorting of the trace wire. I almost attempted his outlined repair but I was worried I would screw it up. I can solder copper plumbing lines but not much experience with electronics.

@Tony77 Given my circumstances appear to be identical to yours, I'm thinking I may split the case and see if I can fix it. Worse case, I buy a console from Sparks or wherever I can get it on the cheap. Did you save yours? I'll buy it if you have it still and want to get rid of it. ;)

I think I may have this problem and I disconnected my battery first!
    1. disconnected battery
    2. installed new ultimate maps
    3. reattached battery, all good, maps light up!
    4. Disconnected battery again,
    5. replaced dome with dual color dome.
    6. Plugged battery back in, but dome won’t light.
    7. Disconnected battery again, and flipped dome connector.
    8. Plugged battery back in, still no light.

    Maps are still good.
    grab multimeter at this point.
Tested resistance on fuse, good. Removed fuse, Maps go out. replace fuse, Maps turn back on. Dome still off, so fuse is good.

I’m getting 3 ohms resistance on my old incandescent dome light, none from my New LED dome light. I’m also not measuring any voltage from the dome socket. The old incandescent dome light now will not light when in the socket.
    :confused::mad: Any ideas?

    UPDATE:

I'm going to leave this up in case someone else runs into this. My rocker switch was in the middle position throughout this. I got an idea from reading this thread that maybe I need to change position. So I switched it over to "on" and measured voltage on the outlet again. Viola! current. So, next, I disco'd the battery and installed the dual dome again. Reconnected battery and bingo. Working fine now. Also working fine when the rocker is back in the middle now. LOL. Go figure.

    Hope this helps someone.

Is there a video anywhere of the overhead disassembly? Not removing from the truck but taking it apart to get to the circuit board.

    Thanks

For the Maps or dome? or both?

i just wanna take the overhead console assembly where the map lights go so I can get to the circuit board like @MESO shows in their post on this thread. I’m having trouble with the plastic welds and popping it open.

    I haven't seen a video for that.

But from the picture on the first page on those plastic welds, I would use a dremel. It worked great for me when I had to remove plastic welds from my Tundra (Different project). Using a blade might only cut the surface weld where there is more bond underneath that location.

I had a similar issue when I installed my meso map lights except the SOS button circuit got fried and I need a new overhead console. Does anyone know the part number for the overhead console with the sunroof buttons?

I found this but when I tried looking up the PN on Google not much came up. Might be a start though

Thanks for your help! I looked through some diagrams and the dealer confirmed the correct PN is 6365004160C0. This is the overhead console that has crawl control, locker switch, SOS, and moonroof controls if anyone else needs it.

Is the third cargo light connected to the dome light? I’m looking for a overhead console with no sunroof only the sos light

so I just installed the ultimate map lights and they are constantly on. The on/off/door switch works for the dome light still.

would this still be the case for the fix. The map lights were working fine before installing the led map lights.

okay I reinstalled the normal lights and they function fine.

would this still mean the board is shorted? I can make this fix easy but it doesn’t make sense to me why it would be shorted if the normal bulbs operate fine?

This thread, and a few others talking about problems with LED swaps that don't involve the dome light, has convinced (scared) me into making a decision to never risk swapping the conventional bulbs with LEDs anywhere in the truck. I was really only considering changing the rediculous 1980's Dome light bulb: It's truly a joke. But it seems like it's literally a roll of the dice on whether you survive it or not. A possible $350 penalty on a new circuit board for swapping out a 50 cent bulb??

I can live with the lame 10w OEM bulb. :pccoffee:
