what transfer case fluid do I need/can I use?

Vehicle is a 2011 DCSB 4x4 4 Liter automatic. I'm good with using the factory transmission fluid, but do I have to use the Toyota 75W gear oil for my transfer case and differentials? Can I use something of good quality, like Red Line

75W-90? In either case, I'm told the transfer case and the differentials use the same stuff, correct me if that's not right and tell me what does work. I've got the electronic limited slip (applies the brake, etc). How much of whatever I use do I need for the transfer case and both differentials?

Thanks, getting ready to do some overdue maintenance. I've watched the umpteen videos and read the tutorials here about the transmission change procedure, which brings me to one more question. I have a Scan Gauge II in my truck, programmed to read both T1 and T2 transmission temps. Can I use this temperature data to do the fluid change, or do I still have to do the OBD port jumper trick? The Scan Gauge plugs into the OBD port and reads the temps directly from the sensors, so shouldn't it be an accurate measurement?

75W-90 Synthetic (which also has a GL-5 specification) is what I put in my front / rear diffs and transfer case. RedLine MT90 75W-90 GL4 for the manual transmission.

 

Could you share what codes you used to get transmission fluid temps on your scan gauge? I have a 2010 1GRFE and I'm having trouble finding the proper codes for both my ultra gauge or scan gauge to show the transmission temps.

 

I just use The GL 80w90 in the transfer and diffs, Works fine

 

The GL4 vs. GL5 subject is interesting & worthy of further research. I've looked into it a bit. Here are some of my thoughts:

TL;DR the FSM says GL4 or GL5 is OK for 2014 6-speed manual transmissions. I chose to go with GL4 "just in case." (Also, in my case, it shifts better & runs a little quieter.)

 

Thanks for giving me the temp range. I figured i could use the Scan Gauge, just wasn't sure about the temp range.

Wish I could help, but it was three years ago when I programmed it and I don't remember. You might find them on the Scan gauge website, or at least how to find them.

 

Diffs and xfer ECGS says Lucas 80w-90 reg is best. On Amazon $8 /qt and you need 6 to do all 3 cases.
To fill simply buy a piece of clear tubing 12" like at ACE and cut the squeeze top open and force on and tape the crap out of it to that lid then squeeze it in and reuse lid/hose for other bottles. Just another option to use or not.
