Does anybody know why Toyota has discontinued the Left Rear Compartment in the Cargo Bed?
I have a new 22 TRD Sport on order and realized it's no longer available

Thats a bummer. Was a perfect spot to install a little compressor.

2019 was the year it was discontinued. 2018 was the last year to have it.

I'm going to guess it was a money decision. Assume that factory cost for parts plus assembly sits at around $2 per unit. (I have no idea what actual cost is, could be 10 bucks, could be 30 cents.) Multiply that by 250,000 units manufactured in a year.

And also, 2018 was the first year of safety sense. So I'm guessing the eliminated cubby helped offset the new grille garnish.

    :cookiemonster:

Edit: at any rate, its pretty common for Toyota to "make disappear" little features that they think don't get used very often. (Ive heard magical rumors that the first model years to have the composite bed had as many as four cubbies.) Another example that disappeared, the GoPro windshield mount, in 2019-2020 I think. Toyota got that one right, few people care about a GoPro clip.

But for the cubbies, I love mine. I would be upset to not have them anymore.

Yeah, I have a 2019 and the left side cubbie is gone. If my truck had a left side cubbie, I certainly would use it! But I don't need one there bad enough to do any truck bed surgery to install one.

Definitely a cost cutting measure. They also deleted the cab factory bed rail.

RobMotive installed a large drivers side cubby, so it’s possible if you locate one. https://youtu.be/hoeyiCq_x1I

I think the 2nd gen trucks have 4 bed compartments, 2 of those are without doors.
I thought the GoPro mount was super awesome when I bought my truck but haven’t used it once.

My 2020 didn't have one, does now thanks to a $40 junk yard find.

I have a 2021 sport and mine came with a small compartment on the passenger side in the bed.

I think they all have that. Mine is actually the larger box since my trim didn't included the outlet.

I use my GoPro clip to mount my dashcam, though admittedly I bought and modded a dashcam just to utilize that clip. :anonymous:

Is it significantly different on the Hilux? On my 2015 it doesn’t interfere with the view beyond what the A-pillar already blocks. And I don’t know what room it takes up space wise, what else would go there?
