I'm now doing some research on a new PC for video editing w/ premiere pro... Not really high quality gaming focused for now. Subbed

My Huawei laptop is nice, but REALLY struggles in 4K editing.

There’s normally a little bit of wiggle room with the specs they list. I’ve got a 3d printed offset bracket for my top rad so I could fit a full ATX motherboard in there. Side rad is a VERY tight fit, but it works.

Mine has top exhaust, front intake, side exhaust, and bottom intake. Side fans are mounted behind the radiator, with an EK FLT 120 mounted behind the motherboard tray with a slightly customized (cut) bracket.

I don't think I actually listed them. I do have an additional fan for the CPU and an exhaust fan on the way, but I was impatient

    Phanteks P600S
    Ryzen 5900X
    MSI X570S Edge max wifi
    Noctua DH-15S ?
    MSI Gaming 6900XT
    32GB 3600mhz RAM
    1TB samsung nvme ssd
    EVGA 1000w psu
    Antec psu extension cables

Finally added the 3rd 360 rad. I don't think it was necessary by any means with my 3080 12gb and 5900x, but it looked like it'd fit with some finagling so I had to try.

Temps dropped maybe 2 degrees Celsius but that might be improved even more with different intake / exhaust configs.

If I truly was about 100% performance I'd ditch the SL120s for some Phantek t30s or noctuas but I like the fancy lights.

Also I run them at 1000 rpm which is basically silent.

And for the cable management. Not the neatest but it works at least.

still waiting on my cables I ordered in February, although they might be here this week so then I'll tidy things up a bit more.

Overall stoked with this build, and I think once the cables arrive it'll be done for a while.

Also, PSA, thoroughly clean your Corsair rads before using them. The last one I added had so many black particles from manufacturing.

I'm planning on using my old PC for a Plex server, NAS and unifi controller. What is the preferred HDD brand nowadays? Seagate? Seems most drives are about $20/TB

If I ever did anything that actually stressed it, I might worry about the temps a bit. Realistically, mine gets used to slice 3d models for printing so it rarely sees temps very far above ambient. In addition to that PSA, Corsair rads are actually rebranded Hardware Labs rads if anyone is looking for some.

For all your HDD reliability needs: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-drive-stats-for-2021/

I mostly use Western Digital in my server. Check into shucking the WD EasyStore external drives from Best Buy if you’re looking for a good deal on drives and don’t mind waiting on a sale. They’re white label WD Red drives.

Keep an eye out for Seagate Exos Enterprise drives. They're absolutely overkill but lately they've been selling for very attractive prices, even less than Iron Wolf drives.

I personally haven't liked WD for the last decade or so. I had more than a few Blues go bad quick.

how heavy of video rendering are we talking?

    Also I'd spend a little more for a 5600x - https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-56...=&hvlocphy=9006604&hvtargid=pla-1038719530487

I'd also go x570 over b550 for your chipset if you can find a good deal on one. the deals pop up randomly.

Lastly I'd suggest a modular and at least gold rated PSU. Here's one that's overkill for your spec but would give room to grow if you were to upgrade your GPU to a 3000 series: https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-RM75...locphy=9006604&hvtargid=pla-583308377736&th=1

Ditch the NZXT case unless you're in love with it. That thing is a microwave oven. Your components are pretty low heat but you may as well start off with a case that can support upgrades without becoming an easy bake oven. The Corsair 4000D Airflow or Fractal Meshify are in the same price range and have better airflow.

Not sure what my son and I are going to build - taking 4 'dead' computers (2 MSI, 2 Azus builds 2015-2018) plus some extra parts he ordered but didn't use when building a computer for his daughter (the GKid is into light gaming).
One thing I threw at him was a 3D printer for the GKid so we'll see what we can salvage first then go shopping from there.
The hardest so far is picking a case might take @Sterdog advice and check out the Corsair.

Thanks, I tried to find the cheapest MB that had a X570, a sound card, Wifi, and good reviews, but cut out Wifi because I couldn't find such a MB for less than $200 with that website.

    Updated list went up $100

I am getting to be a dinosaur and use DSLR's - lately I bought a Canon 80D which is a crop sensor, but the newer crop sensor that takes 24 megapixel stills but I'm not sure what video storage it requires. I had used a 2013 Macbook pro for my last major project back in 2015 and this was with a Canon 60D with 18 megapixel still images.

I'm running an Asus x570 mobo w/ wi-fi. It's been pretty good so far, and it's right at $200 on Amazon.

3D printers are insanely fun if you like to tinker with things. Beware though, they have a tendency to multiply (currently have 3, have been accused of only printing printer parts).

Watch out on your RAM, they’re the same brand but two different speeds (4133 and 4400). Timings are all the same, so double down on one or the other but don’t mix the speeds. It’ll default (when you enable the RAM profile, don’t forget to do that or it’ll be running way slower) to the slower of the two if you do mix things.
