Ive got 260k on my 06 tacoma, looking to do a drain and refill on the trans. I know it takes WS but I have 2 gallons of Valvoline Max life left over from a previous job, it says its compatible but has anyone used it?

I have used MaxLife extensively in both my trans and power steering system. It’s fantastic fluid. Use with no worries.

A drain and fill is only going to remove about 1/4 of your fluid. Better than nothing, but have you considered doing a full replacement? There are some great write ups on here on how to do it, and it's really easy.

Do you mean a flush or a disconnect a trans line and let it pump all the fluid out then refill?

I've used Valvoline Max life. Over 30,000 miles and no issues to date. Did the replacement procedure on here and I'm planning on a drain and fill this summer, (note planning).

I’ve done 3 drain and fills, always used WS, I don’t think it probably matters as long as it’s compatible.
But for me and my tranny I don’t mix, I keep everything the same. That way it eliminates the second guessing if tranny problems happen in the future.

At 260k is this the first time for a tranny drain and fill?

Replace the ATF filter if it hasn't been replaced.
I’ve done two ATF flushes on my Taco and three on our Lexus with Maxlife. Maxlife is also compatible with Type IV, and have Maxlife is the Corolla and Camry. That being said, because of the high mileage and only doing a drain/refill, I would use WS spec fluid if this were my vehicle. Consider Idemitsu TLS-LV.
