In the picture below there is a 8mm (5/16") that goes all the way through top to bottom. Is there some sort of lock that will fit this?

I have a 2" receiver bike rack. The hitch is held in with a ball that gets pushed out when the bolt is tightened. This keeps the rack from wobbling over bumps. The problem is that there is no way to lock it using the normal hitch pin locks. There are newer models that fix this but I don't have one.

It's just like a normal one but with a smaller diameter. The 9/16 is way too big.

Rite rite. The one I posted adjusts (length) from 9/16's to 2- 3/4's Thickness is a tad less than 5/16ths

If you are looking for something approved by the Lock Picking Lawyer, this is something he said he would actually use - which is about the most glowing recommendation a lock could get.

Here’s what I do. The lock blocking the retention bolt is a 1UP item on their website. The bike u-lock serves two purposes: an additional layer securing rack to taco and if retention ball comes loose it will stop the rack from walking out of the hitch while driving.

Nice! Love the U lock idea. I use a Salsa nylon strap since the velcro strap it came with broke. I will lock the rack to the hitch with a cable lock if needed.

I’ve had the rack loosen in the receiver once. I noticed it wobbling while unloaded and folded up in my rear view camera. In its defense I installed and tightened it when it was hot out and parked in the sun. Got really cold a couple days later and was parked in the shade of a parking garage. I’d guess the metals contracted at such different rates it couldn’t stay snug. I’ve used the additional lock since that day.

I always check my 1up rack at the first stop to see if it has loosened. It's loosened a little a couple times, but probably not enough to come out. I'm going to get a U-lock to go this route now that I've seen it. Thanks!
