Doing well Miss Susan - we dodged all the storms again last night, but didn't get a drop. Looking to finish all the repotting of pool plants this week.
Mega-Frost? OH NO, those poor sprouts.
Have fun in Floriditty Mark, but be careful, those folks are getting weird!
FP Insert Installer came back with the main man yesterday, and we got it settled back inside the old FP so that the whole thing fits better, and no gap on the plate to the bricks. He'll come back again to make it level and final.
Road trip Wednesday. Haircut, few stores, recycling run....will be a nice day for a trip once the sun pokes out.

Swapped out the 12V socket for an ARB threaded 12V plug (prevents fridge power from vibrating out)
I added a BlueSea 4363 (switch, USB, 12V Plug)
On the side of the box, I used two thin sheets of aluminum and bolted my Redark 1240D to charge the battery while driving and allow solar input.

Battle Born isn't the cheapest solution, but proven components for reliability. Battle Born will have a sale once a year, 10-year warranty on those batteries. Blems are fine (case scratch).

One of the 4x4 Off-Road Shops had a screaming deal, stacked coupons, so I could snag the Redarc 1240 at a great price (I just looked at $450 on Amazon, I paid $300 last year). 1225 (25 Amp charge) would be acceptable, but it didn't have the solar option. I like parking and camping, hence the solar option (25' of cable, park in the shade, panel in the sun, and adjust if you are around the campsite).

This powers up my Dometic DZ75 fridge/freezer and CPAP. In Hindsight, the freezer takes too much energy (handy when shopping), but extended camping uses both sides as coolers. Then again, nothing better than a dutch oven cobbler with vanilla ice cream after a long day's hike!

 

Almost good light. Stock market open in a few then out to the raised beds.

 

Every benefit I see in present day cars can be compared to some kind of detriment, and the result is only a slight superiority to the newer cars. What is really better with new cars? Brakes, milage, safety, reliability, emissions? It's easy to improve four of those with a classic. How do the classics compare positively? Style, comfort, simplicity, and certainly performance. Considering weight to milage ratio they might even beat newer cars.

One of the things I really don't like about new cars is you have so little choice in options. You can't find a stripped car on the lot anymore for half the price of a loaded vehicle. People have been sold on the idea that options improve resale value... when options depreciate faster than the basic car does.

When my dad bought the '65 442 he looked for the car with the least options. The only option on the car was a radio. I'd buy that car today in a heartbeat.

 

I think we dodged the major frost bullet. Doesn't look too nasty YET.

Same here, no PS, PB, or AC on the "66", didn't need those HP robbers! The factory options that are on the car are a in dash tachometer, a universal dash mounted clock, seatbelts, a AM/FM radio, all vinyl interior, and the L-72 425 HP 427 engine option, just the necessities!

 

Things are going up here in PA, thanks. I have been busy with many projects so I haven't been on much, mostly lurking. Having Rob back, pulled me out of lurking mode. Glad to hear you are winding down at work. Just need to keep busy when you are totally done....visit grandkids, get a couple of hobbies you never had time for, and spending time with the girls. . Our Angus had to go in and have the plate in his ankle removed but he is doing great. You have a great day.

 

My biggest modern car gripe is the thick A &B pillars and the giant blind spots that they create.

My old wagon is essentially all windows and has typical 60s style thin pillars therefore no blind spots.

I will allow that in a crash situation the thick pillars (and the airbags they contain) would be handy.

 

Driving the old wagon takes no unusual effort, after years of driving trucks and SUVS I'm aware of how much lower I'm sitting than usual.

It has typical 60s very light power steering, you can just about steer with a finger.

The brakes are manual drums on all 4, they take a strong leg, nothing excessive.

Best of all there isn't a silly symbol anywhere on the car. The heater is labeled "defrost" and "heat" -- a system noteworthy just for it's clarity.

I don't get along well with ladders anymore, probably many here feel the same.

Every year I dread trimming an ancient Catalpa tree. Years ago I used a chain saw, then a Sawzall with a tree pruning blade, that worked very well but still required an 8 foot ladder.

Today I bought a Portland brand 120 volt corded pole saw from Harbor Freight ($70), it can extend out 10 feet, this was a game changer. Did the entire job from the ground.

It has plenty of power for the intended purpose, seems well built and comes with an Oregon branded bar and chain. Solid buy on this one.

 

I bought the same saw last fall and have used it quite a bit. So far so good!

 

Isn't there a "free/give stuff away" thread on here somewhere?

I agree with your likes for new cars and add steering, handling.

For classic, I don't know about the comfort. With modern suspension comfort has improve throughout the years. With better technology and air ride it like floating in air and can handle around corners.

From working at dealerships, strip cars doesn't sell good. People wants all the bells and whistles.

All the same material and labor goes into strip cars as fully loaded cars. This is why it's so easy to add options after buying a new car.

 

Blind spots can be an issue. This is why manufacturer are adding camera.

My guess with the thick pillars is, Impact safety, structural. Even in roll over.
