Been there 3 times, a super super awesome place. The biggest thing to be prepared for is the wind, it gets crazy. If the wind isn’t bad, be prepared for mosquitos. They have ice for sale on the island if you don’t have a fridge. Obviously make sure you have enough food for the entire trip. Make sure you have a full tank when you get on the ferry, driving on the sand you’ll get probably 1/4 your regular mpg. They do have gas for sale on the island but it’s at a premium. Air down to 10-15 psi and you’ll have no problem on the sand. You may find it beneficial to drive the beach in 4LO so you’re not lugging your engine so bad. Watch your speed on the beach, they monitor/enforce very regularly. Recommend having a small tub/bucket or hose to rinse your feet off before getting in your tent otherwise you’ll find sand freaking everywhere. Overall super awesome place, I’m planning to go in June if my truck is back up by then. 13 miles of beach riding from tip to tip of the island.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Let’s us know how they roll out

I like the look of those tires and what I have read, but will be interested to hear real world reviews.

My biggest concern was wet wets since the don't have a lot of sipes but a member on here in Washington state said they've been great for him in the rain. I'm getting the -25 five stars so I'm sure I'll be cutting once the wheels get here.

Just got some 5.29 gears in from Nitro. Can anyone recommend a shop for install? Tried Southern off road specialists, but they don't install nitro apparently. Something within the state please

So far I'm very pleased. Keep in mind my use thus far has been 100% pavement usage. No personal experience with them on anything beyond Forest Service roads.

With that said though; street manners (wet and dry) and lighter duty towing have been great.

I should probably add that they do grab and toss smaller rocks more than other A/T tires I've run (Falken/Cooper/BFG). This is likely due to the slightly larger voids in the tread than some of the other offerings. They still remain surprisingly quiet on road though.

    Same crap everyone else got
Contact Kurgan Motorsports. They are a big name in the mustang world but they also do gears and if they can set up a 3rd member for a ford 9in i'm sure they are capable of doing a toyota 3rd since its only the rear. I'd call them and find out. ALso look into Mo's speed shop. Both have great reputations. I know they aren't off-road shops but they should be able to set up gears.

Fastlane imports in Marietta so been pretty good to me in the alignment area. I always see lifted toyotas there too so maybe contact them also.

She’s a beast now in comparison to stock. Kings are like butter. 41mph through the whoops today with a toddler in the pax seat and dog in the back. Used to have to do that in the low 20’s or I’d eject my tools and pup.

May be swapping the Tacoma for a 3/4 or 1ton soon since this thing’s filling the offroading box so well.

Does Baker Offroad or ACC do gears? ACC is good people and I always heard good things about Baker's.

use to be a gear shop in acworth called eightyninty gears and offroad. Will Knox was the owner. it was a one man show. He did my regear, cmc, and brakes. The work he did for me was always good and I felt he was honest. However I believe he shut down since his website is not active. @HashTaco Might be worth your time looking into this.

I didn't figure they did, but they work on a lot of modified Toyotas. Hence they might have a recommendation.

@CowboyTaco I know you like the jackery products. Do you use a camp fridge? I'm looking into one but was kind of trying to figure out what all is involved besides just getting a fridge. I'm not very knowledgeable on solar or wiring

I run an ICECO JP40. I would highly recommend the ICECO because they utilize the same danfoss compressor that many of the big names utilize, including ARB. The downside to ICECO is the customer service is lacking. The guy who runs it, Lu, is slow to respond and English is not his primary language. I'm not aware of anyone who didn't eventually get taken care of, but sometimes the process is painful. I've been running mine for almost 2 years non-stop and it has been good. Cost, product and warranty seems to be the best with ICECO. Just be warned about dealing with the company if any issues arise.

That said, that's why I went with the JP series. Hard plastic body. The metal ones that they offer look good, but there was an issue with shipments where the product was dented upon arrival. The plastic doesn't dent. They "remedied" the situation by increasing padding on shipping material, but some were still getting damaged during shipping. Not ICECO's fault, but something to be aware that you might have to deal with. The newer pro models look good. I'd love to get one, but I'm happy with my JP40.

I get about 3 days on the Explorer 300 and about 7 days on the Explorer 1000 if running it without adding any supplemental charge. If you want to charge a bunch of electronics in addition to running the fridge, go bigger on the Jackery. Well, in all honesty, get the biggest one you can afford. That said, the 1000 takes up the entire floorboard of the back seat of the Tacoma....I think I have some pics in my review of it. I think a 500 would probably be in the sweet spot. For a weekend camping trip, especially if you plan to do some driving to give it a little supplemental charge, the 300 (and probably 240) are perfectly adequate.

So pretty much if you have something like a jackery that you can charge before a trip it would power a fridge for a few days without adding solar and such?

Correct. About 2.5-3 days on a 300 and 5-6 days on a 1000 is what I get on the JP40. The compressor uses about 55W when running.
