I have a an ARE CX HD shell on the way and I’m starting to think about AAL options. My truck is leveled with a 2in lift, the shell will stay on full time and I’ll have a RTT on top of that only when I go camping. I’d like to have a bit of rake back on my truck when it’s not loaded (other than the weight of the shell). Do I go for a complete leaf pack like the Icon RXT or can I get away with just a single AAL per side?

Anybody else running a setup similar to mine?

Edit: I also want to add that I have the TRD lift kit on my truck which came with a block for the rear lift. The blocks will be coming off when I change the leaf springs. So I guess the AAL will need to compensate for that?

I put in a single AAL from Torch and it's been great. I've heard people criticize a single leaf but it's provided the lift and stability I wanted for my shell and equipment that I transport.

I used a 3 leaf Progressive AAL from Icon and it is great. Holds my tent and gear with little sag Slight rake without gear. 1" front lift (5100's) and 1.5 rear with AAL. Easily 500+ pounds fully loaded for camping. Good luck. https://www.youtube.com/c/TravelingbyTacoma

Do you recall which option you used for the RXT pack?

Any complaints on ride quality when you aren’t loaded down?

Also interested in this setup. Have RSI cap and stock suspension frequently sags when loaded with dogs and camping gear. Is it not advised to use AAL on stock suspension? Thanks for all the help!

Putting on an AAL and then adding a bunch of weight is unfortunately exacerbating the wear-out of the OEM leaf pack. It will provide you with greater load carrying capacity at the cost of a stiffer ride when unloaded. Having the suspension compress when loaded isn't necessarily a problem, though.

However, If you have a consistent 200+ lbs of weight in/on the bed we recommend a new progressive leaf pack. You'll get the look that you want, and the driving characteristics that you would expect. It'll make the additional weight not feel so "heavy". The most popular options out there right now are the Deaver U402 or Icon RXT leaf packs. We carry Icon RXTs here at Hotshot Offroad.

FULL LEAF PACK. I’ve wasted money on AAL and Icon progressive AAL. Changed out to Dobinson and will never look back. Went up 2.1” as stated by manufacturer. My truck has Leer top and sliders weighing down back end. Factory leafs are junk and you’ll only be applying a bandaid to the problem with AALs.

Thanks for the input all! Will probably hold off full leaf pack until I can do 5100's or Eibachs all around as well. One and done! Really appreciate the feedback.

3 leaf AAL from wheelers, with overload left in.

happy with it, rides great! If i had to do it all over again I would look at full leaf packs, and give them more consideration.

I did just the rear leaf pack with 1 degree shims and stock shocks all around and havnt had any issue. Not a hard wheeler but definitely not a pavement princess lol i enjoy the ride now vs stock.

Zero. I can't imagine it's from the shell alone, but hearing people complain about the ride quality with an AAL is mind-boggling to me. Truck drives great, feels more stable at speed. Love it.
