Reducing powered sub volume 3rd gen stock head unit

Okay so I have a non-JBL 3rd gen double cab. Started by replacing the stock speakers with infinity reference 6x9 components in the front and infinity 6.5" 2 ways in the rear doors. Added a kicker key 180.4 amp with a plug-in harness using the metra plugs. At the same time I added 2 speaker leads to the rear of the truck and tied them in before the Kicker Key amp for a powered sub. I then installed a

Rockford P300-8P sub. Ran the remote wire up to the front... In all it's a pretty decent system retaining the factory head unit, which I want as I like the functionality and want to keep the navigation.

However.... Even with the bass turned down a few notches, the remote knob all the way down, and gain all the way down on the sub. It's kind of overpowering the rest of the system. Especially with my daughters music playing. Most of mine it's okay. I turned up the gains on the kicker amp and it's better in that respect but now I have the hiss which I hate.

What I am wondering is if I connect the sub to the rear speaker outputs of the head unit instead of the front will it still get full range? I know the power to the rear is significantly less. So I was thinking it would probably solve my power problem. And I could always turn up the gain on the sub. But I don't know if the rear speaker outputs have full audio range? I know I could install a clean sweep and a bigger, better amp for the regular speakers... I have already spent too much on this as it is.

Is the input level switch set to the “HI” position? Sounds to me like you’re input level is too high.

Make sure your “bass boost” is turned all the way down as well. All that does is introduce distortion.

 

You know I was cleaning the truck earlier today and looked in there and sure enough it was on low. DUH. So I pulled the amp again, adjusted the gains down and all is right with the world. Of course my daughters music still sounds crazy. But it's all hip hop type stuff. So much bass. I will say that little sub is REALLY impressive for what it is.
